Lionel in Europe?

Do Lionel trains run in Europe? I mean, I figure a new transformer will be necessary, but that European 220V juice makes american-made electrical appliances and goods run funny, not at all, or can even damage the item, even with a transformer.
What will I need to run my Lionel trains in Europe?

I am sure they have them in Europe. Try contacting Lionel, TCA, or TTOS. Someone will have your answer!

You'll need a step-down converter - it plugs into the European 220V-net. It's outlet has the US-style and is 110V. However, the frequency is still 50Hz (European standard), not the 60Hz like in the US. I'm not sure whether any problems can arise due to the wrong frequency - there was a thread on OGR-forum stating that at least the steam-generators might get a problem. My MTH-3rail 0-scale trains are running on 50Hz.

To avoid the wrong frequency one must use a European DC-power-supply (12V) and add a voltage step-up converter (like the one you use in your car, converting the 12V from the cigar-lighter outlet into 110V) and plug the Lionel power control into it.

    Hope it helps

Are there no power supplies I can plug into Euro voltage directly, that will run Lionel trains? I would assume someone in Europe makes something that will run them directly; without adapters, inverters, converters, transformers, and whatnot.
