Well I got my hands on a Lionel flat car today. WOW! It truly is a nice car and worth the effort to convert it to 2 rail. I've decided to try NWSL wheels, and use a wood shim and carpenters glue for the mounting pad for the Kadee couplers. The deck on this car is wood and the under side is the wood used for the deck. With a metal frame, it has a very close to prototype construction. The Lionel trucks also give the flat car the proper height for Kadee couplers with a minimal shim. Other impressions about the car are positive. Details are sturdy, with a good weight for tracking. If a load is used, it will be sufficient in my opinion. I doubt I will add any weight to the car.
