Lol.. Forgive me Father, for I have sinned...

Went to the Council Bluffs Great Train Expo today and came home with a Blackstone 30' DRGW boxcar.

Life is getting ugly.

 

Just the Song of HOn3. Colorado has been done to death, but both the ICRA and ORy are 3 foot gauges. And I've got a full set of plans for the ICRA equipment ( which would be sweet in On30, sice Bachmann makes lokies that match but sets of steam plans I got).

That and some measurements told me I could put 18" radius into my space pretty easy.

 

I know you didn't expect to go there and come home empty handed? LOL Not!

 

I hear you. Luckly, the ICRA had a fairly large Baldwin fleet (84 steamers in 1956!) that looked alot like the DRGW stuff. 2-6-0's, 2-8-0's. 2-8-2's. 4-6-0's etc. So a few detail changes will help. Besides, they hauled containers there, so anything is possible! And banana trains.

 

Nope. I was looking for some other stuff as well. Saw a Woodland Scenic's 1938 fire truck, but I picked up a couple of the Jordan Models ones for the heck of it. And some 20' containers for the heck of it.

 

Of you can still pay rent and eat ramen, you're doing ok.

 

Or you could put HOn30 trucks on it. It will do 9" radius easily.

Yep, got that part covered..

 

I've done that before, but they look really funny. You pretty much have to narrow down any 3ft plan about 6 inches to make it work right. The extra width makes the cars wobble really bad.

 

Carson and Colorado. 18 runs again!

Mine is Colorado Consolidated, with the proposed but never finished California and Nevada NG, northern SF bay to Salina, Utah...connected to NPC, C&C, D&RGW, and barge traffic to WP&Y. I run them all. Even have #9 C&C, built it almost 20 years ago..#8 is on a shelf, partially done..someday......
Then you get to see the K-27 with an oil bunker (we exploded the last coaling tower years ago)...even have a UINTAH 2-6-6-2 running...oil bunker....

 

I have not had any "wobble" problem. Our HOn30 track gauge is 6" wider then the prototype 2 feet, so "scale" width cars don't overhang the rails as in real life. Most of my cars have an external width between 7'-2" and 7'-4", and that "looks right" to me because it approximates the overhang of the Mainiac two footers. Your Mileage May Vary (YMMV) of course.

Can anybody help me please, what does ICRA stand for? Google has not been very helpful so far, seems International Conference on Robotics and Automation is what finds more appeal there.

I'm "of course" one of the D&RGW/RGS aficionados with corresponding gaps in the rest of the North American NG field.

Lots of other meanings come up as well, such as Internet Content Rating Association. But an old abandoned railroad? Maybe on page 100198?

Yeah, sometimes that train show item just won't stay on the vendor's table, will it? Well, shipping of used equipment from Trinidad, Colorado to Guatemala might have been more expensive than buying new equipment. But if they didn't buy equipment--new or used--from the U.S., where would they have gotten it? Besides, modeling a poorly-documented railroad means never being frightened by the words, 'Never happened.'

I'd put a wash just light enough over the Rio Grande paint that it can still be seen, then mark it in your colors. And call it a good purchase.

 

Let's see, I once upon a time studied for the ministry. I don't recall any scriptures that say you have sinned when you've deliberately gone to a train show. I can certainly think of other places more dire.

Oh, I don't know. I'm as tolerant as the next fellow, or so I like to think. But if I were to see a North American 85' vista dome behind a little Scottish tank engine like Thomas, I might consider it a sin...

 

IRCA. Yeah, some days the old brain ain't working well..

 

I'm thinking about that. Alot of stuff showed up all over. IRCA had German made Krupp 2-8-2 engines in 3 ft gauge as well. Also 2-6-6-2's.
