Caught this on a train a couple of weeks ago. It is the first time I have seen one of the old 1600 series SD40's in a long long time.
The SD40s I saw was on mix freights and locals.Every so often one or two shows up in the unit consist on coal drags but, GEs and newer EMDs seem to be the norm on coal drags.
Nice catch! Please have NS send it west, all we see out here in SoCal are BNSF Dash-9s and UP SD70Ms. We need a change of pace!
Tellmeaboutit! SD70M's a nice, but when about 75% of all the 60-80 trains Cheyenne sees has these in consist, it gets old!
This unit was on a mixed freight. It's been a while since I had seen a straight SD40 in this area. I sorta kinda feel for you guys out west, we see quite a few of those UP70M's and BNSF Dash 9's here too. When I was out a couple of weeks ago and saw this SD40, I saw 4 UP units (3 were SD70M's and 1 was a Dash 9) and 5 BNSF units (3 Dash 9's and 2 SD70MAC's). That's out of 34 total loco's seen. Okay, who am I kidding, I'll take any BNSF unit you want to send to Atlanta.
You wanted to see anything BNSF? I thought you might like to see this unit. It came through Louisville, KY on 09/05/04. It is an Alstrom rebuild. Not a great shot, but I hope you enjoy.
