Greetings all.. Looking for photos of Autoracks..

Only looking for enclosed cars... no open racks or open racks with pannels..

But.. heres what I'm looking for..

Anything without a roof.. (Some enclosed cars had removed roofs for SUV/Van loads.. And photos are hard to come by.. )

    Anything out of the ordinary..

Any single pannel cars (CP Rail, ATSF, and Seaboard had these)... The cars have a solid single pannel across the whole car... and the entire car is painted (no silver pannels)... Should be Bi level cars, standard height. They look really similar to the articualted TTX cars, and the newest 2-20 and Auto-Max racks..

CP rail cars were painted box car red with CPAA reporting marks (no logo)... new repaints of these cars are Yellow with "Canadian Pacific Railroad" and maybe a beaver..

ATSF cars are box car red with standard logo and Q logo.. in the corners... Early cars were box car red with big ATSF Logo in both corners and "Santa Fe" on the top center of the car.

SBD cars... I honestly have no Idea... what I saw was yellow with a huge color Seaboard Logo.. But I also heard that some of these cars were grey..

Alot of these cars I saw in blurs on videos or on trains.. but never got pictures of them..

    Thanks.. ~Ian

Can't help with your specific wants, but I have some pics of a CN "grilled side" open rack in use back in 2000. I must have seen literally thousands of racks during the two week trip, but other than a couple of articulated's this one was the only really different style one I saw.

    Sorry :(

Let me know if those pics are any use.

I was down at Balmer Yard in Seattle a little over a year ago and caught a recently outshopped SP autorack. Unfortunatly when they put the letter board panels back on they got them backwards so it read "Pacific Southern" I waited half an hour in the rain to get a picture of it!

    Hi Ian,

It sounds like you are looking for shots of W&K's unique Saf-T-Pak autoracks. I only know of one shot of these online, at this url: http://www.trainweb.org/nwrp/atsf/atsf700014data.htm

As far as roofless enclosed racks, you're right, pics of those are hard to come by these days. I think most, if not all of them have roofs now, and classed as ETTX cars (but of course, there's always an exception somewhere ;) ). If they are the ones I'm thinking of, they were CTTX-class cars, and I can't even find a listing for the CTTX mark in the current TTX equipment guide.

Most SUV and Van shipments travel nowadays in fully enclosed TTGX cars, or articulated BTTX or Auto-Max cars. Open top racks are pretty rare, although there are still a few open and partial-panel racks used to transport delivery trucks and military vehicles. Regardless, I found a couple shots of CTTX cars on the Fallen-Flags site.

    Hope this helps!
