Finally, a pic of this elusive unit, fresh from the paint shops: http://www.bnsfpix.com/bnsfnotes/read.php?t=224&p=224 She's on her way west, folks, for the dedication of the new Maersk Pier 400 facilty in the Port of Los Angeles. The other unit painted for the occasion, the Norfolk Southern SD40-2, is already here. The 6976 looks really nice, IMHO, and I can't wait to catch it in person. SoCal railfans, get your cameras ready!
Paul, An excellent photo of the new paint scheme. I wonder how long it will be until somebody does a model, hopefully in n scale
That is one cool paint scheme, hope it stays like that for a while Good to see and old unit looking so shiny
IIRC, there was a GP60M painted baby blue & silver for Maersk back in the Santa Fe days. Anybody have a pic?
go to google.com and type in maersk 146. This was the road number of that GP60M in Maersk paint. About 6 or 7 itmes down it will say superfleet pics. Youwill first see a thumbnail and then you can get a full pic.
I almost forgot to mention that I was able to see and photograph the 6976 this past weekend. The internet pics of the unit don't do it any justice...that unit is GORGEOUS up close and in person! The silver paint was so clean and bright, it was practically glowing in the sunlight! I was really impressed with the quality of the paintjob. My friends and I were lucky to catch it in several spots on it's way to LAJ's yard in Vernon (as well as entering and leaving the yard itself). Unfortunately, the NS/Maersk SD40-2 was "in hiding" at BNSF's Commerce Diesel facilty, and I was only able to get glimpses of it between cuts of freight cars. Still, I'm glad to have seen a couple of rare birds like those.
