I've got a Mantua 2-8-2 that I need to re-power and replace the gears on. It's been making some noise, and last night the motor died completely. :-( It's my best puller in steam, and the most consistent. Cast boiler and heavy tender with cast trucks. It has the plastic gears, and they're quite worn. Want to replace both gears and motor. Any suggestions and who to go with? I'm satisfied with the speed of the old setup, although it had poor low-speed performance. Help! (whimper, whimper) Mark in Utah
Mark, Bowser has good skew-wound armatures on a DC-71 replacement motor. You may also try Alliance Locomotive Products. I believe they carry replacement motors for Mantua. For gears, try Northwest Short Line. http://www.bowser-trains.com. http://www.alliancelink.com/alp http://www.nwsl.com/ Glenn
Mark & Glenn A very timely question and answer. I have two Mantua locos that need repowering and Alliance kits can help in both cases. Thanks for the info! Cheers
