Hallo! What is the intermodal train's speed limit? Finally does anyone tell me how max cars there are in a intermodal train? Thank's in advance!
Speed: Varies as to which railroad, speed restrictions, type of cars etc. Usually 60mph on BNSF. Max cars: Varies as above, subject to available loco horsepower. Usually 3000-6000 ft in length.
Thank you Charlie. I would have an other question: the trains that are composed from tank cars that transport dangerous materials and inflammable are subordinates to particular restrictions?
For more specific info on BNSF train speeds go to www.bnsf.com & look under "Employees" for their timetables. On the Cajon, Mojave & Needles subs w/ certain restrictions train speed can be as high as 70 mph, yet on the San Berdoo sub only 50 mph. Below each subdivision timetable in Sect. 1 are the speed restrictions. Also check Sect. 1 in System Special Instructions for speed restrictions by car type. Like Charlie said it depends on train location, car types, etc.
