Thank you Kurt. Many of the construction scenes I model are inspired from things I have done or seen while working on a job site. A few details about this particular scene might be worth mentioning. The ready mix truck is from Athearn. The drum slowly rotates from a motor under the deck. The white Ford pickup in the first photo hides the rod to the motor. The pump trailer is scratch built, as are the basement wall forms. I still need to add a bit of clutter to the site like some wood scraps, maybe a dumpster, and a couple of # 2 shovels too.
Oh, wow-that's even cooler when it's animated! Maybe a couple flashing caution sawhorses and a beacon flashing on top of the trucks, those little things really stand out!
View from the cab of BNSF Dash 8 on the Port interchange track. It’s a hot July day and we’ve had a pavement “blow-up” on SH 167 going north to the Port. ODOT’s crews are breaking out concrete and will be putting in a temporary patch till the pavement can be repaired properly with a panel replacement. Traffic is not to bad today but this weekend is the 4th and it needs to be done before the holiday traffic starts. The crew in 624 are thankful the a/c is working decently today......
Looks like there is a derailment somewhere, here we find part of the D&RGW GJ wreck train in the RIPS getting checked out for the trip to the un-railment location. We see guys work on and around the 028, 250 ton crane, SB6 side boom, and other aspects. We also see a most important part of the work train, as the "privy" is being loaded into a MW boxcar. We also see spike cans oil, and diesel drums on pallets ready for loading as well. See these folks go to work at a derailment, is like kicking and ant mound. All the journal boxes will need to be filled, and brakes checked as with all the fluid levels in the machinery. Of course a couple guys with clip boards or phones to their ears too. Had an old head tell me one time, "kid keep you head down, walk fast and look worried, and nobody will mess with you", he was right. The other part of the train will be worked when this is one is done. Anyways thanks for stopping in for a l@@k
Tom, is the work train scene a new setup? I don't remember seeing it in your previous posts and photos. Looks fantastic, great job. Joe
Thanks for all the likes and comments Kurt, Mike, Joe and Dale. Joe, I have had this for a while. Here is the build thread. https://www.trainboard.com/highball...n-crane-028-grand-junction-wreck-train.93721/
Tom, we would love your talent down here at the Mississippi Coast Model Railroad Museum. We have loads of layouts in various scales that are about to expand into 40,000 square feet. Your imagination and creativity would be more than welcomed. You would be one of our artistic leaders.
Thanks Hank! Man if I were close I would be there. 40,000 sq ft, holy smokes that a BIG MRR building!
Actually, 4 1/2 years ago, I had a crew and some work trains show up to help ME build the layout. Here they are laying sheet cork on the staging yard.
I knew I had some more construction scene photos some where, finally found them ! The Tokyu Corporation's new Megro subway line has been years in the making but it is coming along. Tunneling was completed last year and the stations are well underway. Here we see steel decking being delivered at the site for the Musashi-Koyama station. When completed this new subway line will replace the above ground line and the land can be re-developed. Here's a seen common to construction sites the world over pumping out the outhouse. And of course the bosses have to have their site offices. In Japan this can sometimes be 2 levels.
I don't know what is more impressive, the actual photos, or the back story you have all written about them. Some really impressive writing about your scenes. Excellent work everyone! Keep them coming. I really like reading about the scenes you have made. Talk about imagination Happy Holidays!
The crew at Word are glad they landed that new contract for process modules. Meanwhile, Fuzzy is looking at the UPS shipment wondering what to do with 12,000 garden hose washers, not the 12- 10,000 psi collars he ordered....... View attachment 230284
Priser figures, GHQ vehicles with a scratch built "Tar melting trailer" the structure is JL Innovations McSorley's Ale. The green structure is also a JLI offering.
