Did you take along a camera? I'm surprised that rail you mentioned, was not stolen for scrap. WIth all the metal thievery in recent years... Why do people build close to tracks, then have the nerve to complain? Simple. They're ignorant. It used to be requisite common sense of anyone who was considering buying, or building, to explore your future surroundings. Now, they just blunder in. I dont know why people complain about the tracks near their house. Tracks are about 30 feet from the back of my house and I hear a train at 10 pm and there is one that runs threw here at 2am(But im sound asleep) and it bothers me none!
In the case of New Albany, most of the houses near the tracks have been there as long as the rail line. Nearly all of the houses are rental properties that I would darn near rate as slums. The occupants of these dwellings have no reason to complain. The city of New Albany wants 15th street re- paved and the crossing revamped. There is also a very big problem with the sewer lines under the tracks- they are caving in. The city cannot properly repair/ replace these without CSX cooperation, which it seems they cannot get. Maybe this down time will afford a good opportunity to accomplish these things.
Wasnt this a subject we was talking about in New Albany that day? Maybe they are just gonna do a few changes with the line and in the near future run CSX trains again???
