I caught (what I consider to be) a "monster" sized train on the NS last week: 9 locos on the head end, 1 UP + 8 NS units! Harold
The conditions weren't great... extremely overcast, had been rainy, and I jumped into a driveway to catch the picture away from the sun. In addition to having a UP unit on the head end, it is interesting to note that the UP unit was the only EMD unit... all of the other 8 NS units were GE! Harold
Another shot of the same train... headed towards Black Mountain and "the loops" (note the GE radiators..) Harold
Actually, just a mixed freight. It probably had ~ 100 cars on it. Train size wasn't as unusual as having 9 locos on the head end. Harold
You are correct... I'd say that most of them would have to have been offline, according to NS's standards. My guess is the extra locos were going to be dropped off at Linwood yard. Harold
GREAT CATCH AND GREAT PICTURE HAROLD!!!!!!!!! Not everyday you see a Consist with 9 Loco's. I think the most I have seen on one train have been 7...which is still very nice..but 9...so much sweeter.
Harold, you do seem to catch some great unusual stuff - do you have a camera attached permanently to your eyeball?
Not permanently attached, but I do carry one with me almost 100% of the time. Harold </font>[/QUOTE]I need to learn to do that! . I can't hardly remember to pick my head up off the bed when I get up each morning...much less have a camera with me all the time . I need to do better . When it comes to pictures Harold...YOU DA MAN
