does anyone know if accuflex or badger makes a montana rail link blue or if there is a similiar color to use for it?and one other question has the cp painted any of the old sooline sd60's into their paint scheme or are they all still soo line painted.and since i'm on that paint scheme are the cp dash 9's painted action red or tuscan red.i also noticed in my micro scale decals catalouge that they had a smokey bear sd40-2 it looks like,is that still running around up there and if so got any pics?may sound dumb but i dont want to order the wrong stuff.thanks in advance.

HI Bnfan. I did two MRL locomotives for a customer and had to mix the paint. I use Accu Paint and they did not have a blue (same thing with a lot of other paint manufacturers).

About a roster web site. I found one once, so I know it's out there, but I always use google to find info and photos (look at the bottom of the page).

I think Polly Scale (Polly S) make a MRL blue.
As for the Soo SD60's, none have been painted to date. All are in their as-delivered colours.
The current CP paint I believe to be a little darker than the Action Red, but I wouldn't call it Tuscan. Tuscan to me is like the old Pennsy Red.
The CP question posed in the CP forum (if not done) should yield the a clearer answer for you.

    Hey bnfan:

Digging through the aarchives to Model Railroader from April 98, I found an article on "Modelling Montana Rail Link's SD 45-2XR in N scale" in which the author states that he used Polly S Montana Rail Link Blue (#410442). If this is not available, I would suggest that ModelFlex MoPac Eagle Blue (#16-169) looks to be a fairly good match, or perhaps somebodies SF Blue. Hope this helps.

Jenks - the REAL Big Blue!

    Answer #1

Gats is right, none have been reapinted to date, but since the SOO SD60s are running in Canada, there is a rumour that if they are not reapinted they will atleast be renumbered as they are having trouble on some train orders when they take a quick loook telling whether it is an SD40-2 (CPR), or a SOO SD60 as they are all reported as CPR, and then the # on the orders.

    #2

The Action Red is darker than almost every red used on a CPR/SOO paint scheme.

    Happy Railroading!!

My understanding is these are still referred to as SOO xxxx, and are attached to CP's Heavy Haul Division, aka the Soo Line. I wasn't aware they are now referred as CPR units in the orders.

I should post this in the CP forum, oh well.

Many of the SOO units aren't, at least in the eyes of maint staff, SOO units anymore. About 30 of then have now been assigned to Canada for almost 3 years, and have had small cab modifications (they arleady, however, could lead in Canada). I personally, would not be suprised if one is reapinted, or renumbered soon, as it is taken to Alyth.

As for on the orders saying CPR 6061 (example), that is what I understand of the matter. Again, this is from some one in the maintance department, so there is a a bigger chance he is wrong, compared to a CP road engineer.

    Happy Railroading!!

Before some corrects me, that is false, I was mixing action red with a different CPR Red.

    Sorry
