eBay bidders are notorious for bidding up items like crazy, long before the auction ends, until the great deals are long gone.

I always compare this to some hunters who suffer from "buck fever". A condition most outgrow, but some simply never will.

Yep, that's a good way to put it. Kind of like treating it like a "real" auction too.
Most everyone I have talked to that claim to get crazy deals on auction sites say that they track many examples of what they want, pick a price that they will NOT go over...and then they wait until the last few seconds to throw their bid in. Takes a little more effort, but I can see where it would work. I know I have spent more than I wanted before on an item I felt like I HAD to have, only to see something identical a week or so later go for half that or lower. Patience.....

A couple of years ago my girlfriend found a listing for a pair of jeans that was spelled incorrectly. Anyway, she won them for $35.00 (her bid was the only one) and sold them a week later for $385.00

I agree - this is amazingly dumb - or sly weasel-like! He decaled his engine and is selling the leftovers for this price - oh gee whiz - i forgot - its free shipping - wow shipping for this would be about .75 cents - YIKES

One would think the "Made in Yugoslavia" on the fuel tank would clue prospective bidders....but probably not!

I did not scroll up enough to catch the "made in Yugoslavia" in the fuel tank photo! Good catch.
The sad part? Had I not recently picked an Athearn FP-45 up at a train show - and was well acquainted to what they looked like, I would not have known.

Ah! But it's in an Athearn Box! That makes it Athearn!
    Right.
Had a guy on evilbait trying to sell a Lobaugh 0 scale....Mountain or Mikado....because he bought it in a Lobaugh box.

Umm, that's a tad pricey for a truck. Don't you think?

It's great what you can do with an oven and some old TYCO & Bachmann freight cars, melted freight cars always look realistic to me!!

They do look better than fully intact cars simply stacked. But, $43 plus $8 shipping for throw away Botch and TYCO cars is not anyone's idea of reasonable.

I was just going to say that the melted look doesn't do it for me

I can think of a bunch of 9-year olds right now that would go nuts over it though!
