Well, I can see tossing them or possibly using them as details in a car repair facility or scrap yard, but these things don't make very good ballast. The whole lot, PLUS the box they ship in, comes in at under 8 oz.

I ran out of lead on my last car so I lined the floor of one of it with the axel rods. My cars IHC cars don't have interiors and I got 2 full sets just as they went bust and the interiors dried up. Lucky for me I have a lot of Athearn BB cars to add to the collection. Someday I'll finish the coupler conversion.

That is one rather large lot of wheels. I'm sure someone would use a few, but that seems to be a few too many. Other than the use of a few there reallt isn't much use for them.

Which is why I usually toss them! However after seeing all the useless junk that gets sold on ebay, I figured why not give it a shot? I listed a larger lot of Athearn BB/Roundhouse wheels as well. ;)

You know looking at this they are kind of interesting aren't they? I mean, don't think I would buy them but what a creative thing to do with some corks huh? They are kinda cool.
Anyone remember that Saturday Night Live skit about the "Cork Soakers" Now that was funny.

Just a postscript for anyone curious - these DID sell for $5.50. Which is not bad!, considering I have probably tossed this many old wheels before. Interesting thing, I also put a lot of Athearn BB wheels on auction too but they haven't got near the interest these have.

Part of the interest might be the old cheap plastic sets with straight axle ends. Can't find those, and if you're trying to set up an original car and trucks. I know I have a bunch of trucks with not a bunch of those wheelsets. Someday.

These things remind me of the "beer can" tank car kits Walthers introduced- all you needed was an empty beer can, and Walthers supplied the trucks & draft gear.

Didn't buy one of those, either................. ;)

Yes, I do believe that you can find those diagrams for free.
Why would I want to pay that much for them anyway?

Because these are not only original free diagrams, but the original owner used a hole punch to destroy any inherent value so they could be put in a three-ring binder.
    FAIL!

"...pile of..." Those two words descibe it perfectly.
