I might of guessed. And at about $120, that's one mean handling fee.....wonder if it's just a typo, not that I see myself putting in a bid for this. With the stuff listed at $300, probably not though. It must be hidden too as it just gives the $201 for shipping charges and a estimated delivery date of longer than UPS normal delivery time. It's gained in value since you've posted. Wish my 401k would grow that fast.
All I'm going to say is that I hope someone needs replacement parts for a locomotive that belonged to a very dear friend/family member who has passed away and that they better understand that this is not the split frame GP-18 that Life-Like produced. Otherwise, someone needs a sanity check and/or is in for a rude surprise. I mean, I have one of the plastic frame GP-18's and while I won't get rid of it due to it being my first locomotive, I would try to install an Atlas chassis rather than buy a parts donor locomotive to keep it running.
To go along with the Milwaukee GP30 that sold for $247 the other day, check this out: http://offer.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI....Name=STRK:MEWA:BIDN&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2765 I've seen these sell for $148.00 before but not this high. It's getting close to the one seller who always listed some as BIN for $200 plus. Maybe he'll finally get a chance to sell his as well?
I have seen these going in the $225-250+ range. They are very much on want lists. When they came out, some people who had them on order were lucky to get just one, if not going without altogether. For MILW Kato SD40-2, it boils down to the old how bad do you want it, and how much will you pay?
One of those odd situations here - I was in a hurry to get a Trix Pacific, so I didn't spend a whole lot of time researching "going rates" and probably paid a bit of a premium for this one - http://www.ebay.com/itm/15116359958...X:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649#ht_5319wt_1277 Once received, it turns out that said loco barely ran "as is". However, I quickly sussed the problem as being a short-circuit due to one of the tender trucks being flipped 180 degrees. And so, armed with that assessment (along with a screwdriver), all was well with within a few minutes. So, ultimately no complaints here (and unequivocal positive feedback left), but I must admit to feeling both a bit annoyed and a bit smug about the whole thing. Kind of equals out, eh? Anybody else have any similar experiences? Cheers, -Mark
I bought a Kato GS-4 about 4 years ago from a shop that was closing. $30.00 as is, took it home and put the traction tires back in place, still running today. In fact my only steam. Bob.
A few years ago I picked up a DCC equipped loco that the owner said he had installed an after market chip in. He said no matter what he did he couldn't get it to run or recognize the chip and thus ran out of patience with it. I got it or a very fair price as "Used, not running" After getting it home and taking the shell off, I spotted the problem right off, the chip was put in backwards! I didn't have the heart to tell him.
Got an Atlas (Kato chassis) GP30 with a Richmond Controls light board in it (constant lighting + mars light) - weathered (which apparently got it) for $30. It's either a free board or a free locomotive, still first-line performance today.
Was looking for a Fox River inspection car made by Overland a bit back and almost lost the house over this one, http://www.ebay.com/itm/231096258742?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649#ht_48wt_1200 Sold for a mere $598.88, OUCH!!! Last one before that sold for like $180.00. I know, it's probably a brass thing.
Yes it is a brass thing. I had a OMI MILW Little Joe #E79 that I bought new for $560. I had it for about 5 years, only had it displayed in my display case. I sold it to buy my wifes wedding ring. I put it on Evilbay for $1400 and IT SOLD!!!!!!!
"Evilbay"? Sounds more like "FreakingAwesomeBay!" to me ;-) But yeah, the one-percenters are out there throwing money at the hard-to-find brass stuff like the Bolsheviks are at the door. I tell ya, the prices I've seen those crappy old Kumata Centipedes go for lately makes me we wish I'd gotten around to finishing that time-machine project. I'd go back ten years and pick up a bunch of them at the "what they're really worth" prices and then get in on the nowadays "they're worth $1000" thing. Cheers, -Mark
Oh how many times I have spoken this same lament, through the past three or four decades at least.....
Maybe we can get one of those Shapeways rocket surgeons to cobble together a working time-machine for us :teeth: Cheers, -Mark
Meanwhile, at the other extreme, it continues to amaze me how many of those High-Speed 'Reader's Digest' items keep showing up. Even in my 'Ignore List' there are dozens if not hundreds of them out there at a time. I wonder how many of those were actually made... maybe the production of those items outnumbers all other N Scale* rolling stock combined. *No, the 'High Speed' stuff really isn't exactly N Scale, especially the unpowered GP-something-or-other. Edit: OK, I looked... searched N Scale for "High Speed." 148 results, although not all are these items, for example there is a TGV model listed and that really WOULD be High Speed...
My fellow time travelers, I am reading some excellent ideas! How about if we go back even further, and invent N scale, before HO?
I had a set of these in SP that my Grandpa gave to me years and years ago. While going through some boxes about 2 years ago I found the entire SP set. I had no use for them so I put them on Ebay. I laughed hysterically when 2 people got in a bidding war over these P.O.S. I had in BOLD lettering that these were NOT true N scale trains. I think after the bidding war was over, I got $70 for them. I laughed all the way to the bank! Ryan
Oh my... http://www.ebay.com/itm/111221044421?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649 Now that's highly motivated bidding! What's the over/under on how many copies of this car show up in the next week?
