What I'd really like to do is subtract about a half dozen sellers...

Use the advanced search option. About halfway down the page there is a seller option field. If you click on the button 'Specific Sellers' a menu appears that lets you include OR EXCLUDE the list of sellers you have entered.

I only have about half a dozen sellers excluded but I'm sure you can list many more than a dozen!!!

That would work if they all listed it as High Speed from Readers Digest, but usually it is just listed as a SP freight car or engine. As I recall, whenever you enter 'High Speed' in a new listing, you get (or used to) a popup explaining that this was a Readers Digest give away and shouldn't be listed in N scale trains. Even with the additional typing in search, they still come up fast and furious since too many people only see a train and not a brand or a freebie.

Back before the housing crash (2008) it was the golden era for MT cars. Cars went for all kinds of crazy prices. Since then, prices usually top out a half (or less) than the record highs. He's probably looking at the record price and using that in the listing. Just because one sold at that price once-upon-a-time doesn't mean that we still live in Wonderland.

The seller ends with "...in the past." Yes, but how long ago? It seems to me this is nothing more than just trying to manipulate potential bidders, (sucker play), for their own gain.:rolleyes::rolleyes:

The reference to the "high bid value" is one of the editions of the Collector Guides. They were issued on a regular basis and used the "paper-based" auctions as their sources. eBay was never a source for data for these guides. I remember the Westmoreland Coal hopper being of interest to me because lettering included "Return to Irwin Pa." (!!!).

When I got my pre-owned copy, it did not cost $167.72.

I don't know where they got those two pictures from but it's not of the item they are selling. I can assure you Power Hobby is legit and you will get a new in the box loco. I've used them so much both in person and on eBay (due to Covid). They not only carry train stuff but also much more radio control stuff. I buy a ton more of R/C stuff from them than train stuff. Very good people.

That's interesting. There's another listing by someone else for the same engine...but its picture has the horn. ?? Maybe it's an older "official" photo.
I'm more concerned that the description talks about Southern Pacific and D&RGW, but not Santa Fe. Could just be a copy/paste thing.

Further to the Westmoreland Coal Company hopper... three copies available at the just-concluded N Scale Weekend, all under $15. I would imagine these were "runner" copies, but if you're a runner, that's just fine.

Wow! If they had 35 to sell, you would think that they would just snap a photo of an actual unit. I guess they were just really busy?

I consider all of my cars 'runners'...I don't buy anything that I don't plan on running. Of course, having something to RUN them on is a different matter. Usually they run on the N-Trak (now N-Rail) layout but that hasn't been set up for almost two years now and I dismantled my last layout to start building a new improved one only to have that one get placed on hold because it was decided to build a new 20X24 workshop/layout room so that the N-Rail and everything else can move out of the garage but with the price of lumber, that project has now been put on hold. So I guess I'm currently a wannabe runner (I don't understand where all these new pieces of rolling stock keep coming from, they just keep showing up).

It looks like the price of extruded styrofoam hasn't completely gotten out of hand, so that's a temporary alternative. Except in warmer climates where it's so hard to get two inch thick pieces (read: Sacramento Valley).

How's the price of beat up Hollow Core Doors these days?

I already HAVE the extruded foam down in the garage. What I don't have is the Train Fairies that come in the night and lay cork and track...
