It looks like he has modern looking locomotives for $1000, and the older diesels for $150, which would be a little high if they have DCC installed, but way more reasonable. Looking at his other stuff he has pretty much everything listed way higher than it’s worth, and most of it is junk. A knife that I can buy new for $150 is listed for $150 and it has so much pitting and wear on it that I doubt it would be good for anything more than cutting the crust off your sammich…

So I sent this guy a message saying people on the net and FB are laughing at him and these are just $100 locos. Here is his, and my responses.

are you saying i am famous now? Tell the boys on facebook the people on ebay are laughing at them because they obviously dont know anything about ebay

    Massey:
We know all about EBay and what the value of a Kato locomotive is. Just because it’s a new SD70ACE, or a similar modern locomotive doesn’t mean it’s somehow worth 10x what Kato sells it for. Go to Katousa.com and check it out for yourself, these models are $120 and then go to hobby store sites and you will discover they are only going for a $100 for DC and maybe a little more for DCC. So go ahead and keep these $100 locomotives listed for $1000 and pretend you know more than the people who work with and use these daily. Have fun with your junk.

    ----------

Well he just messaged me again, and he bumped up the price because someone local wanted to buy so he made it a price no one would want to buy at, and he will fix the prices back when the local guy decides. I can understand that, not how I would do it, but understandable.

For some reason, I'm not seeing the thread of the questions/responses, @Massey. Maybe eBay doesn't want me to see them.
It also appears that your question wasn't posted to the item information on eBay either. Imagine that.

I went to the GENTLEMAN'S crazy bay ebay page, Kato N Scale176-3118 EMD SD45 Union Pacific Engine #6 Locomotive | eBay.

    Item description from the seller-

first i know nothing about trains so if something doesnt look right it probably isnt so ask before buying. i bought several of these that i will be listing. some have a piece of bubble wrap on the front some dont. not sure if that it is an indication of used or not. i have not taken any out of the plastic case

Seeing the gentleman's Grammar Harkens to my what would be Late Mothers Favorite Coffee ,Tea Mug and my now favorite. Please see photo below.

I always wondered how to determine if a locomotive had been run before or not. Knowing now that the bubble wrap being in front of the loco in the package is the definitive answer will make my life so much easier!

If only that worked for MT cars (other than sniffing the original Oregon air when the box is finally opened)...

I have always wondered how much the value is reduced, when the car has other substituted air?

If you didn't already deploy the Ten Foot Pole on these locos-- and the seller of them-- that's reason enough all by itself. I don't want to deal with a buyer, so I jacked up the price to scare off said buyer...

    Yikes.

Meanwhile, listed recently by another seller were Kato locos WITH DCC for $100...now that's a little more like it.

    Really ??????????????????? I'M RICH !!!! Yaaaaaaaay !

anyway ........ maybe the bat poop on the end of the box makes it rare.

But seriously it is worth asking about unusually high and low prices. I once saw a Jaguar for sale (1:1 scale) that was many $10,000's below list price and thought it was a typo. Two weeks later one of dad's mates turned up with the purchase the century.

This pales in comparison to the $5000 "I know nothing about trains" listing but...
