I thought I was lost when I saw this train coming through the NS yard in Durham:

I had a small digital camera from work, hence the pictures are not nearly the size (or detail) I usually take [IMG]

I'm not an expert on the CSX, but isn't that an early AC with what i'd guess would be early steerable trucks?

    Anyone know...

Nice pic Chessie! And yes, those are GE's version of the radial truck....Generation I design, IIRC. I remember seeing somewhere that they have another type, called Generation II, on some of their AC6000's. Are CSX and UP the only current users of GE's radial truck design? I think all AC6000's have the radial trucks, although UP had some AC4400s with radial trucks, but replaced them with the standard Hi-Ad design.

In Diesel Era(Issue #?? recent) they had a photo of some AC6000s headed to Australia with a different version of the radial truck. I don't know if it's 3rd gen or just a 2nd gen variation....

I do know there are at least 3 types now though .

Thanks... I have been lucky lately to be "in the right place at the right time" to get a lot of photo ops. I still have some work to do as far as editing them. I shoot them in a high resolution mode, so they can be as large as 500k. I like them larger, as they usually offer terrific detail.

Incidentally i'll be taking a digital photography class this fall, so i'm hoping to become an expert on em! [IMG]

I probably could benefit from a class as well [IMG] The "little" picture was taken with an old Sony Mavica; the "large" pictures are all taken with my Kodak DC290... I bought a 64mb flash card so I can shoot up to 125 high resolution photographs. I really like it, but there may be better alternatives available now. I know Casio makes a 3.3 mega pixel camera that has a 340mb "micro-drive" ... you could store a lot of pics on there!
There is a new forum on Trainboard devoted just to photography and trains. Why don't you post this type question over there so others can join us?

    Ahhh yes a Technical question!

Uses 3 differnt kind of trucks on the AC6000CW and 2 differnt kinds on the AC4400CW

    For the AC4400CW
Hi-Ad (nonradial)used on early CSX units and ALL UP units,SP,CNW,BNSF, and early CP units
Phase I Radials used CSX units 201 and up and Later CP units. Said to be equiped on a few UP units.

    For the AC6000CW(T)
Hi-Ad first CSX units 600,601 some UP units
Phase I radial used on all other CSX units other than 600-602 some other UP units
Phase II radial used on CSX 602 and some astralian units.

Cool....and to add, don't the KCS/TFM AC4400's have Ph.1 radial trucks? Naturally, I can't find any photos of them now that I need them. [IMG] AFAIK, the UP AC4400 units have had their radial trucks removed and replaced with hi-ads. Last time I saw a UP AC4400 with radials was about 2-3 years ago at the Metro-Stevedore coal loadout in the LA harbor(neat company btw, they used ex-SP RSD-12's, and now ex-ATSF SF30C's, for switching coal hoppers), and according to railfan reports and talks to friends who are modelers/railfans and also work for UP, have had the radials replaced. Supposedly the use of the radial trucks was for test purposes, and UP wasn't entirely pleased with their performance, so off they came. I've gotta do some research and railfanning to find out for sure.
