As part of the fallout from their new SD70ACe units arrival, the old F45 units are slowly fading from every day service. Present status of F45's: 390- Stored. Serviceable. Livingston. (Within past two weeks.) 391- Stored. *Serviceable? Livingston. (During 2005. Date?) 392- Active as of January 5, 2006. 393- Stored. Serviceable. Livingston. (Within past two weeks.) *Note: 391 may be out of service. Believe I recall it had a major failure. Boxcab E50
From what little I can gather, it sounds as if they'll be held in place. Sometimes, these were preferred power for company inspection, and official trains. Boxcab E50
Other than delighting railfans, I can't imagine that they'd make great leasers... many railroads would find them too inflexible. (Really hard to run long hood forward, for example ) Harold
In the past, the F45's have been fairly common visitors as pool power on BNSF trains, even showing up in Texas from time to time. So don't be suprised if they show up on BNSF if they run short on power.
Well, when I head up north this weekend,I'll try to spot them at Laurel, Billings, Helena, or wherever... Where is Livingston? Ken, Lord-willing and the creek don't rise (or other assorted weather nasties), we should be leaving for GF on sat. morning!
Hemi- Which route will you be traveling? Livingston is due north of Yellowstone Park, right on I-90. Hoping you have a safe trip. Perhaps even enjoy the journey! Let me know when you have "landed." A little USAF lingo there. I'll send you the name and e-mail of a good fellow to contact in the vicinity. Get you started with MRL, etc. boxcab E50
F45 number 392 was seen on a train west of Missoula this morning. So, she's still out and about. Boxcab E50
Kurt- I wish... Maybe I'll get down that way this summer. If gas isn't back through the roof again, etc. Boxcab E50
I have pics of the new ACez!!!! And a single F45. Couldn't find the others in Livingston. I have several shots, waiting for the puter next week. Library access sucks..
That's a tough question--you may want to PM this Q to Chessie here, or post it to the NS or CSX forums here. They may be able to better help you.
not to my knowledge... if they had, I would have found them out... Susie-Q has recently repaired and reactivated their F45 after years of storage...
