When trying to install my good old MSTS on my Windows 7 equipped computer, I wind up finishing with something that looks like perfect at the first glance, but which isn't: keyboard controls (throttle, loco brake, train brake, dynamic brake, etc) don't work, and if I try moving the "true" controls in the interactive cab, I'm unable to "grab" them with my mouse.

My question today: do you guys are facing the same issues, and are you aware of any patch that could help me to solve my problem?

    Any input welcome. ;)

Thank you Bob. But I just got a lot of message errors (and was unable to run the program) after I carefully followed these recommandations.... Maybe I should try again.

    Best regards,

    I'm not sure it was 32-bit WIN7 or 64-bit WIN7.
I have both on different computers and some legacy programs like only 32-bitness.
I haven't re-installed MSTS since I upgraded the last of my XP machines to 32-bit Windows 7.

    Good luck.

    Dom,
I finally came around to researching this further.
Make sure you have a 32-bit version of Windows 7.
I just finished installing MSTS on a machine I keep for just this purpose and it works well.
You can see which version you have by going to Control Panel->System:

You can still obtain a copy of the 32-bit version of WIN7 from Microcenter, Amazon or other online sales sites.

    Have fun.

    Hi Bob.

Thanks for your data. I'm in 64-bit and I don't want to change, because I'll maybe mess up my system and other software. However, in another forum a guy gave me a trick, recommending to install MSTS directly using Window XP settings while opening installation box. MSTS works fine now, except 3dtrainstuff.com products. But the remaining is OK. Will try to find the forum where I discussed about that and will put it there.

Although I stopped playing with MSTS in 2012, I had no issues installing and running it on my new (in 2011) PC running Win 7 SP1 64bit.
The trick was remembering that 64bit OS has TWO Program Files Folders - 'Program Files' and 'Program Files (x86)' with the (x86) being for 32Bit Programs.
As long as MSTS is installed to the Program Files (x86) folder and and any Shortcuts are edited from 'C:\Program Files' to 'C:\Program Files (x86)' it'll work just fine on 64Bit OS.

I didn't want to start a new railroad simulator thread, so will amend this one with another brand. Caught this Train Sim World beta demonstrator video featuring CSX on YouTube just posted yesterday. I've never had the time to play with any of these, but I'm extremely impressed!

Guess you'll need a rocket engine equipped computer to run it.. ;)

    Thanks GG-1,
I was just wonder how to re-enter the Train Sim world since 2009 (when I had a massive MSTS crash that I could never fully resolve). Does anybody have a tutorial on merging MSTS into Open Rails?
