This car started out as a 3-rail car. I liked the waffle sides and it was full sized for O scale. Granted the paint scheme is a bit off, WP did have some orange box cars though. So I changed out the trucks with Weaver 2-rail and added Kadee couplers. For running at a show, it will catch people’s attention and is robust enough it will survive transport much better than the old Walthers kit built car. So, even though I'm prejudiced, do you think it looks like it was worth the effort?

    Well, it does look nice!

How is Weaver as far as fidelity to scale? Anywhere close? Or do they lean somewhat to the toy side of the spectrum?

Weaver is full scale. Nice late 70's equipment and cheap enough you can kit bash or super detail. Weaver is kind of like the Athearn of O. Cast on grab irons but rugged enough.

Yes Paul, some of your weathering magic would make that car really nice. I keep looking at your examples and I'm getting closer to taking the plunge. The nice thing about that car is, it was relatively cheap. If I goof up, I wouldn't have any problem taking it to the next level with wire grab irons and stirrups.
