    Agreed!

I'm just happy it's CSX, but like Joe D' said we can always add more color. No mater what scheme I'm buying several extras to paint/decal so I can have some in any scheme I want.

YN2, the gray with blue and yellow, would be the most common scheme for CSX SD-40's. I believe all new locos and repainted/rebuilt locos are coming in the YN3, "Dark Future" yellow on blue. This includes recently shopped/rebuilt SD40's with cab-controls for the RF&P here in Virginia. It is strange seeing what looks to be a brand new SD40.

Joe, if you can do something else, don't do simple blue lettering on gray (not stealth which is new units delivered in only gray primer to get them in service quicker). I don't think that was anywhere near as common a scheme. Some were in yard service and a small number were delivered that way early in CSX history (I think those were actually lettered CSXT rather than CSX).

I personally think YN3 looks best, but YN2 would be the most logical choice for more sales.

Randy, I would be more then happy to have a YN3. I guess the YN2 its a bit complicated to paint. Maybe thats the reason CSX change it. I'm with you. Either YN2 or YN3. At first, I didn't like YN3, but I am beginning to like it after painting my road slug in YN3. Right now, I am in the process of painting my GP38 in the same scheme.

At this point I'm still not sure what's going on so I hope everyone is patient. We're up against capacity and I am trying to get what I can in the Que as soon as possible. We have another meeting this week I think on monthly releases, maybe I can see if we can move things around some. Maybe I'll squirt them all purple and put my thumb print on one side ) Call it Joe-Mama Short Lines..

    Will keep everyone posted.

    Cheers

Just remember Joe, when at the meeting, Rock Island! Just using the forum as my wishing well.

Just think this would look good next to the Rock Island GP35's.

ps on top of it all, you are hotlinking  instead of putting the picture on your own server

    Harold,

To quote my dad, "never let your Alligator Mouth overload your Hummingbird rear-end"...capacity is just that. We can only process a certian amount of work each production cycle down to the number of parts that can be cast to the number of prints that can be applied. Every step takes man/woman-hours and you can't exceed the number of hours you have based on the number of employees. If you do, you get into overtime issues which should be avoided at all costs for obvious reasons. Each month we pick cars and locomotives, compare the amount of work to execute them and subtract that from our current capacity. In the best of all worlds you could staff up and down as necessary and only do the cars you want without having to consider capacity. But that just doesn't work...it's not like a fast food joint, staffing is time consuming and expensive. I liken MTL to a Speed Boat that turns like a Battleship. We are small, but because we have all our process in house, it's difficult to just change directions without some sort of chain reaction. Capacity is also determined by sales. I'd do 20 different SD40-2's in one month if I had internal capacity...but I couldn't sell them because it would exceed your capacity to buy them )

Nice post Joe, just the right amount of info without getting too technical. Even I could understand it.

As to the previous talk of hotlinking, if you were talking to me, sorry. I still don't know what all that is and if I did it. I do know that I don't really like hotlinks, I just like a hotdog with ketchup.:tb-biggrin:

Don't hold me to this, but we did some figurin' and I think we can do the YN3 Dark Future scheme with the CSX release. The more traditional scheme is too much for us right now, but I think this is a good looking loco none the less and gives something the modern modeler something interesting. I'll keep everyone posted.

    Cheers

I don't know the different paint schemes for CSX, can somebody tell me if this is the scheme Joe is talking about? Or is this picture that I quoted, the stealth scheme?

Ok, provisionally they say the YN3 Scheme is a go on the CSX. I say provisionally only because things change, but if I were a betting man I think I would take this one. Thanks for everyone's input on this project, I think we came up with a winner this time.
