I finally caught one of the newly repainted CSX units (affectionately named the "Dark Future" scheme by some railfans):

Here's a "nose" shot of the same unit.... notice that it has WHITE classification lights, quite odd, since the CR units had RED and they are frequently blanked out....

Here's the same unit less than 8 months earlier in its CR paint scheme, still with WHITE classification lights:

Is it just my eyes, the lighting or? But the blue on the nose looks to be a slightly lighter shade???

Actually, I like this scheme. It's a nice shade of blue.

    Gawd,
That brings back memories of the B&O dip job! But that Ultra Bright yellow lettering. To bad they never used the same yellow for the numbers and emblems like the B&O/C&O did....

OK guys, I first hated that Dip or better yet Dark Future paint job. but I believe its starting to grow on me! :( But, the Bright Future we are familiar with is STILL my favorite! Preferably the Bright Future that was used on the C60AC's! I loved the look of that big yellow outlined blue "CSX" lettering on the long hood! :D

I must admit that the new scheme is a vast improvement. Memories of the CO/BO and its nice to see the CSX digging into its roots! Nice pics Harold as always you keep us all visually stimulated!!!! [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

The blue is the same color, it is an optical illusion since the nose has an angle and the lighting is playing off the angle.

Nice pics, Harold, but what a dippy scheme! [IMG]
Kinda reminds me of the "stealth" gray CSX used for a while.

Perhaps with a darker yellow it may work, but I still like the blue/yellow/gray colors better.

As I said, this is NOT a reflection on your photography skills- I'm just not a "dip-job" person.

I just caught another unit in this new scheme: a CSX GP30 road slug! (The parent unit was not repainted!? ) [IMG]

I have mixed feelings on the dark future scheme. I kind of like it. That gray was really showing the dirt on the AC6000's. I will give it a thumbs up over the NS and old Conrail scheme with the exception of Conrail's 70 and 80 macs.

I have seen a few dark futures now. I will say this, it is harder to photograph.

The new units look horrible when they're dirty! There was one trailing last night on Q375...

Then again, on Q506 there was a brand new pair fresh out of GE, so we know it's possible for them to look half-way decent. I sure wish they'd go back to YN2; it is a much better scheme.

YN2 is a commonly used abbreaviation for Yellow Nose 2, or the "Bright Future" paint scheme. Some folks refer to the newest paint scheme as YN3 [IMG]

Perhaps it's just me, but I much rather see the Bright Future colors. Great contrast to the Black Horse.

8745, eh? (Photos didn't load on my previous visit to this thread.) I do believe I shot him in June in Harper's Ferry in YN3...

Yep, 8745... I have caught it twice, once in CR(Q) and YN3. I don't know why the photos didn't load, but those things happen every once in a while :(

    Trains Fans: (my 2 cents)

Is there something funny here? or just my eyes? or did they paint they old color blue on that unit?

I saw several new paint jobs, and the blue (in person) is much darker. The color of blue in Harold's pix almost or does match the blue on the nose of that old style paint in the background in the pix, which is lighter.

And, BTW; the new color of the ends is dark gold, not yellow, as some here has mentioned.

The color blue in the pixs looks much better than the dark blue in person. [IMG]

Maybe I would like the new paint sceme better if they had used yellow on the ends instead of gold. [IMG]

Hey, thats it, use the old blue for the new scheme with the old yellow on the ends. Matbe I would like that better. :D

BTW: thanks for the nice pixs Herold!

    Have Fun: Jeff
