Santa left an IOU for a new building, Tavern Burger, and it arrived Friday. In the same box was Frank's IGA, a birthday present from my wife. I took photos of them this morning. I plan to start wiring the buildings in this area very soon. Tavern Burger.jpg Frank's IGA.jpg

I spent some time running trains today. These are a few pictures of today's action.

Thanks Ed. Woodland Scenics buildings are expensive but come with lots of cool details.

Speaking of Woodland Scenics I know they can be expensive, but on my small 2 x 4 N Scale, the Just Plug Lights are the best scenery purchase ever. I turn them on as I am working on computer or watching tv, no power to DCC control Love them and ease of use, although the wires are so tiny in my scale, can you say magnifying glass

Great shots all Joe. I'm especially digging the NYC Hudson and its train -- a fine looking locomotive and cars. :)

I had N scale before switching to O in 2014 and had a few WS buildings. That was before they came with LED lights but they were well detailed. I think they are a good value if you add up the price of the building, all the details and dry transfer signs.

Thanks. Night running is my favorite. I've love it since I was a child.

Thanks Hardcoaler. The NYC is my favorite railroad.

I put throttle holsters on the layout. It's nice to have a place for the LC+ remotes. My DCS Remote fits in as well.

I took a couple of new pictures. You can see the man in the elevated tower.

I added gravel to the church parking lot. I think it looks better than plain gray. Gravel parking lot.jpg Gravel parking lot 1.jpg

Your church has strong attendance. Must be that new parking lot. That hobby shop might want to open when Sunday service ends so as to capture some extra business. :)

That is a good suggestion, Hardcoaler. A lot of the church members are model railroaders.

    Layout looks good!
Wish I had space to build something somewhat permanent!

Use the somewhat new MTH WIU - Wireless Interface Unit - to
run trains at home. Didn't have it at show time! Found out AFTER
club show. Use my iPad to run. Like it better than the DCS remote!

    A quick question: Using actual dirt/gravel for roads/parking lot(s)?
What do you use to hold everything in place?

Thanks Keith. When we built this house in 2016 a train room was a priority.

I plan on eventually adding an MTH WIU. For now I use the remote.

The roads are black foam core with black foam inside. The church parking lot, the only one finished so far, is cheap gray foam core from the dollar store that I covered with Woodland Scenics fine ballast that I had left over from my N scale days. It's mostly gray with black and buff mixed in. I poured all the gray I had into an old Cool Whip bowl and stirred in the other colors a little at a time until I got a mix that I liked. I put it down with my usual scenery technique. I spread the ballast to a relatively smooth covering, wet it with 70% rubbing alcohol as a wetting agent and drip on diluted white glue. I also have Woodland Scenics Scenic Glue with is basically the same thing but the white glue was handy. I let it dry for about 24 hours and it's done.

I added a new locomotive a couple of weeks go, a LionChief Plus Nickel Plate Berkshire.

This is a video I shot a few days ago showing an overview of the layout as it is right now. There is almost no narration, just the layout with 2 trains running. The layout is a work in progress and there is still a lot to do.

So many memories of the fun I had, as a youngster. What so many of us lose or simply forget, as the years pass us by. You are blessed to still have this enthusiasm. I envy you. :)

Thank you so much Boxcab. I think the trains bring back the joy and enthusiasm we had running trains when we were young.

Your videography is as excellent as your photography. I enjoy your posts and can't help but smile at seeing your layout coming along.
