Howdy All, As some of you know I recently traveled to China to teach english in Dalian, China which is in Northeastern China near North Korea. The trip was a blast. At the end of my stay I took the train from Dalian to Beijing (14 hour train trip). So here are some pics. There are more in my railimages gallery. Enjoy!! Light rail that I rode a lot in Dalian: This was not rush hour yet. It gets even more packed. The end of the line at the city center. They just drop you off in the middle of a busy street! The lone street car that only ran once while I was there. I didn't get to ride it.
Here are pics from my 14 hour train trip from Dalian to Beijing: Dalian Station Getting ready to board our train. Inside our sleeper car.
The view of the other platforms from our window. Crews preparing another train for boarding. Leaving Dalian Station. Rolling through small station.
Another type of locomotive. Station Stop. Another Chinese locomotive. My last photo before Beijing, still another 5 hours from this point, but it was too dark to take pics.
Marshall, that's a wonderful photo essay. The other images in your album are very informative also. Thanks very much!
Wow, what a trip!! Did you get to see any steamers? Any idea as to who built the diesels? Some look like they have some GE influence in them...
Thanks guys. Flash, I think it is meter guage, but I not sure. Hemi, I did not get to see any steamers, I looked, but most steamers are now gone. Also I have no idea would makes the locomotives, I think the older ones may have a Russian influence. But my best bet is that they are bulit by a Chinese company. William, I got hooked up with this trip thourgh freinds at church and Montana Tech alumni that are in Dalian.
That is very interesting Marshall. Thanks for posting the photos. It's fascinating to see photos like that. Charlie
I love the "Sleeper" shot... Please add some of these to our "Look Mom, I can do my A-B-C's" topic too.
Thanks for posting. I think it would be fun to go over to China and ride someday. Been to Russia and have a few pic from there. What organization did you go with to teach English? I have had a few friends go over there to teach over the past few years. Hemi, Here are a few shots of a GE test unit for China. This was the only pic I could get. It was in the shadow of the grain elevator on the West end of the N.Yard. Anyway, you can kinda see the simularities with the Dash 9 with it. I still prefer the US locomotive look, myself. I think there was an article in Trains magazine a few months ago if you want more info. I think Chip got a shot of these up at Plain or E. Portal.
Great shots, Marshall. Good to see you managed a couple of DF4's and DF9's amongst them! Those GE-esque units are interesting.
GE C30-7's in China Those "GE-esque" Diesels in green with yellow stripes are probably real GE's, built in Erie, Pennsylvania. Can't recall whether it was 350 or 450 that GE built for China around 1990, but it was a bunch.
