I mounted all of my trees on thin brass wire posts which allows the trees to bend over when bumped. It also allows for easy tree planting and "re-planting" and most importantly, my careless bumping of the trees.
It takes a little time to drill up into the tree trunks, but it's all worth it when you have a careless blunder. And I've had lots of them!
You might try this to allow for your taller trees to bend over when the suitcase is closed up.

This was a fun kit to build. My one and only planned building for the layout.

It will be a very convincing small layout. Your patience and logical pursuit of the already planned results work wonder. A good example of high quality modeling.

I really like that structure kit too! For a small kit, it really packed in the detail.

That kit is a great looking kit. I am trying to see if I can find a spot on my layout for it.
I really like your trackwork, that ballast job is fantastic. :D

We'll it took me much longer than i thought it would to lay down all the ground cover. Probably spent most of the time debating on weather or not I should buy the Tenshodo 2-8-2 before deciding that I really need new pants. I probably did it in 12 small secions, saturating the ground with glue, then sprinking foam turf, and laying down a layer of static grass. I didn't use a grassinator, but I am happy with the results. Now its time for trees.

It's almost a shame you covered up most of that beautiful rock surface.
I really liked the look of all that rock. Of course you gotta have some green.........

After watching this thread, I too am considering building one with just minor changes to the track plan to fit personal preference.

    Excellent work!

    Curn,

I gotta tell you what a great job you've done  and a fun project to watch unfold. I'm currently working on a antique jewelry case (table style) z-scale layout. I picked up some good tips from you on this thread. I also will be using MT flex track. I'll be keeping track on this project. This being my first post here, I'll try to post some pics of my progress as well. Again, great thread.

LOL! This cracks me up. I can see you standing in the middle of a shopping mall somewhere...

"Pants? 2-8-2? Pants? 2-8-2? Pants? 2-8-2? Aww shucks... better go with the pants. :("

Unfortunately there are No updates at this time. I'm getting married in 17 days and most of my free time has been spent doing related activities, like printing wedding programs, getting procrastinators to RSVP, and keeping the future Mrs. sane since shes planing everything. Also my wallet has suffered a major injury and is bleeding profusely, limiting any hobby spending.

I'll probably get back to it in mid May after I'm back from the honeymoon. I did Justify the purchase of a new Canon S90 camera to capture this time in my life. It takes much better photos, and is much smaller than my old camera, a Canon S2IS. The photography may improve when I get back into it.

    All the best,
    Curn

We'll its time to get back to working on the case. I'm starting out making some trees. Decided to go with conifers. I bought some green WS field grass that looks a little better than the harvest gold stuff I was using.
