Good morning all, I am a new N scale modeler with lots of questions and looking for advice and inspiration. I am working to model the Union Pacific and to a lesser amount, the BNSF as we see them rolling across Oklahoma and North Texas. I am basically modeling the types of traffic and industries in our area such as grain, oil and gas industries, and gravel / sand quarrying operations.

I started an 8' x 10' table layout in February of 2020 and have been working on it slowly ever since. I am now at a point of running trains and the joy and frustrations that come with that. I am currently controlling with DC multi-cab wiring as it is much, much cheaper and seems easier than DCC.

Looking forward to knowing more of you.

Hi Donnie, welcome. I too prefer DC, and have since 1947. DCC appears to be more fun and versatile, but much too expensive to change now.
Please show us photos of what have.

Welcome to TrainBoard. Lots of expert help on this forum. I read about FarmRail(?) in Model Railroader. I liked the color scheme and operations.

    Welcome to TrainBoard!

I model RR in N scale and HOn30, using DC. I have operated on a couple of DCC layouts. It is nice. Costs of DCC have come down through the years. However, I just do not have the budget, nor any real need to go back and re-equip my accumulation.

Welcome to Trainboard! I'm working on building up a layout using DC myself. If you do have an interest in DCC, there are many, many knowledgeable people here to answer questions - the idea used to scare me but honestly it's not bad at all. I just have a strong dislike for dealing with anything software-based so coped out and am building DC

As long as you're having fun, you're doing it the right way!

Yes Sir, there are a few cool shortline railroads in Oklahoma. Farmrail is a cool little railroad that serves Western Oklahoma and connects our rural grain industry to BNSF and UP which are the two major railroads serving Oklahoma. At one time I believe they ran a passenger excursion train across the plains but I haven't seen anything about that in several years. I have found a single covered hopper in the Farmrail scheme on Ebay so of course I grabbed it up. There doesn't seem to be too much for N scale for Farmrail, but I have seen some locomotives and rolling stock in HO Scale.

If I may respond, There is a "gadget" (button) at the bottom of the post that will help you. I normally post in the Monday or Friday (Weekly and Special) thread along with a number of members with a comment and maybe a picture (or two or three, plus).
