I have an idler flat and wooden gondola that I need to build. Not impressed with the instructions on these things. They are a Durango press and rail line kits.

Tom, no flywheels but it’s runs fairly smoothly for its micro size. I haven’t laid any track yet so it’s hard to run it very much.
Kevin, take a look at Showcase Miniatures. I like their products and they’re nice folks as well.

Jim- Is this a water car? Or other commodity?

I was inspired by a car I saw online when I did a search for narrow gauge tank cars. I’m not positive but I do think it’s a home built type of water car.

Well, I guess my first kitbash of an old HO Tyco loco makes me a narrow gauger.

Just messing about with the 55b concept. Somewhere a GI JOE train collector just had a heart attack. ;)

Wait till they see the HO train cars get bashed too. :p

Not much to report Box cab. I look it over for a week or two, then I get the gumption to add a couple pieces. My rate of modeling is glacial.

    Got out my HOn30 equipment.

Been interested in HOn30 since the middle seventies. Bought this equipment about four years ago.

Tried the Bachmann Consolidation conversion from Myner Models but after taking apart the loco it developed a hitch so I put that aside.

Was messing around with N scale and bought the new Model Power 2-6-0 with sound and tried the conversion form Myner Models. Again I got a hitch in the giddy up. Thought maybe the driver had slipped quarter a malady of Model Power steam.

Revisited the Model Power locomotive a few days ago now back as N scale and wondered why the front drivers were off the ground. Seems the front coupler conversion interfered with the pilot truck. D-oh!! Now it is back as a great running locomotive with sound. Tho the sound is a bit weak.

Now we are up and running in HOn30.

Experimenting with painting N scale Kato Unitrack for my HOn30.

Nice to be able to color track at the workbench.

    Need to finish the boxcar.

Got the layout lighting up, painted Kato Unitrack looks good.

Have grout that matches the ballast color.

A break from the day job and I decided to do a little modeling.

I plugged some holes on the back and added some more plates on the sides. Since this was just a build as you go, the cab ended up over the outside of the old model and this now seems to require extra plates to make everything seem level.

Design wise, it has some issues, but -- oh well. Must keep working on this and get it done so I can move onto kitbashing all the rest of the collector cars in the old GI Joe set. :p

    [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

Now the front windows need the same sort of treatment to fix the gaping hole there. Lots of sanding and filler needed too. Since this is truly just a practice loco, I am thinking of modifying the front end by cutting out the low relief louvers, and then replacing that with a metal grill. I'm also thinking of adding some big wood beams on the front and back to serve as big bumpers. As I proceed I just keep getting new ideas on how to personalize this old Tyco clunker. ;)

I keep looking at this picture, thinking if only some of these were HOn30....

I am a binge modeler. I'll just keep posting more shots.

Today it's time to repair the things I broke when I cut up the loco shell. The front windows were almost enough to make me swear off being anything but a RTR guy.

The back opening trim is not glued at the top. I don't think I can get it perfectly symmetrical, but whatever practice Loki.
