    Hi Everyone.

I have been thinking about building a certain class of caboose, for a number of years, that was as far as I know unique to the Frisco-SL-SF.
These cabooses were re/built using PS-1 40' boxcars, which were very much in surplus in the 1970's.
I have a CAD drawing made by a very knowledgeable MMRR modeler. He has no interest in finishing this, as he has changed modeling eras. Problem for me is, I cant open the stinkin drawing.
I downloaded a program to view it, but when I tried to print the thing, they wanted a $100.00 donation to print it :mad::mad::mad:

Can someone help the CAD/PC challenged here? This is a really cool caboose. I cannot find a program that will open the file.

I know it's been forever but I will get my version out this year. I took on a new year's resolution to work on only one model at a time, and work that model until it's finished. I don't have any commissioned projects going right now so I'm actively working on what was left on the workbench. That caboose is on the schedule for probably mid-Feb to get it going again (finishing up the 2nd model on my list for this year right now) If you want to, you can email me that file and I'll see if I can open it and check if my guessurements are accurate. Send me a PM if you'd like to give it a go.

If the file is an STL, pretty much any 3D printing slicer software can open it, but you can't really edit STL files. I think you can use Blender to do mesh editing, but I have not had good experiences trying to import STLs back into Inventor. If the file is for a 3D software like Inventor or Solidworks, it may be a bit more difficult. I have heard that Solidworks can open Inventor files, but I've never tried it. A lot of 3D softwares generate their own proprietary filetype, although there is some compatibility between developers.

It looks like Mike has it covered though. I'd offer to take a look too, but with spring semester back in session, I probably wouldn't have much time to do any modeling work.
