Hi All, I just received my first AZL loco and wondering if it might need some run in time or do I have a bad loco. It runs pretty quiet which is nice but seems to vary speed going in one direction. Then when I switch direction it won't run unless I give it a slight nudge. Anyone else experience this type of behavior from a new AZL? Does it need to be run for a bit to smooth it out? Let me know. Thanks.

Welcome to the board. It may be helpful to know which GP7, 4 or 5 digit model number?

As described it really just sounds like dirty track. Do you have another locomotive to try?

It is AZL-62011 and the track is brand new Atlas track never used. I have Marklin loco's that run fine on same track as I wanted to check that. I have 5 2ft flex sections and all produce same result. Thank for the help!

So what I gather is that right out of the box AZL locomotives should not exhibit these behaviors correct? They should run smooth and at a consistent speed and when direction is flipped on power pack they should start moving the other direction.

Thanks! I'll have a look at those items and see if there is anything amiss.

And as always with a new Z loco, let it run for a bit in one direction, then the other for a good break-in period.

Note also Atlas (and all others) are "dirty" (oxidized) slightly as shipped so it does need cleaning right off. I use electronic grade alcohol wipes whenever I start running trains.
