I noticed in the Trains special edition "Locomotives" that the SD70's lettered for CSX were orange and black. Is this a new color for CXS locos? Does anyone have better pictures? Doc in CC
I don't know anything about that... As far as I know, all of the SD70AC's were either delivered in the YN2 or YN3 (dark future) paint. I don't think they have had any SD70's delivered since the few SD70ACe's and now appear to have gone back to DC power via the ES44DC's. Harold
The only orange and black locos I can think of are the old MOW scheme painted locos with orange bodies and black lettering... mostly GP38's, GP40's and some GE units, which were eventually retired.
You confused the dark YN3 blue for black and the gold CSX YN3 letters for orange. CSX hasn't used orange and black on a locomotive for ten years. I thought the same when I first saw one of their SD70ACe's. Matt
Well that i have not heard about but i did get a little bit of info but im not sure if its true but CSX is changing there name like i said im not for sure but its supposed to change to CSI Chessie System Incorperated
I'm not sure about CSX Intermodal's former name. However, I do know that they are not renaming themselves. The only variation in CSX's corporation from "CSX" is "CSL", which is CSX Logistics. I don't believe they are using that name now. At least I haven't heard mention of it. Matt
I think what you are referring to are a number of SD50's that are being assigned to MOW service, if I remember correctly.
Red Rock! Hmm...I know you from another forum. Have you previously frequented TheRailwire weathering forum? Those SD50's are being painted in standard YN3 colors. I WISH they'd paint them in orange and black. I miss the pumpkin units. Matt
Some, but not all, of the de-rated SD50-2's have been repainted into the YN3 scheme. I caught one last week still in CR paint. Harold
I had the paint color discussion with a couple people at the hobby shop a while back. I think it was just the color rendering from the developing/printing process for the magazine. I'm not overly attentive about paint when I go to work, but I know there are no new black and orange locomotives. In fact, I have noticed that there is a lot of green in with the blue, and it can really show in certain light. Maybe it is actually CSX Brunswick Blue!
This is the only Orange and Black Paint I have seen. I've seen some terribly faded and beat up paint that will give you any color of the rainbow depending on the light. I have seen the CSI lettering on the nose of several locomotives. Here is a link to a CSI locomotive. http://www.trainboard.com/grapevine/showthread.php?t=80237
that orange and black scheme was from the mid 90's, it was used on locomotives in dedicated service for MOW only. They are all off the roster now and sold off. you may see a stray one every now and then but they are lease units.
The last photo of a "recent" orange and black loco was an ex-CSX U18B that now belongs to the Pickens Road!
