After several years of slooow "progress", my layout is finally underway. I have completed the lighting, ceiling, skyboards, painted hills and clouds, and as of tonight the benchwork is just about finished. I will be starting the sub-roadbed this week, and by May I hope to have trains running, at least on a very large (~3 mile) loop. My plan is to run point to point with interchanges and yards at each end, with the option for continuous running. I'll also have a large staging yard (the benchwork for this is complete. It is located in the adjacent crew lounge). The setting is the 10 miles between the towns of Appalachia and Norton, Virginia. The L&N is the primary road, with interchanges with Southern and Interstate RR in Appalachia, and with Interstate and N&W in Norton. I'll have several mines, small businesses, and a couple of towns along the way. Time frame is early to mid fifties, with a mix of steam and diesel. I'll be posting updates to my website as things continue to move along. To see how I'm doing please visit http://www.landninnscale.com and let me know what you think. Comments and suggestions are welcome.
Wow...your Louisville Union Staion model looks EXACTLY like the real thing. Please keep us up to date on your progress. Will be subscribing to this thread. Jamie
I've made some more progress. I finished the benchwork and I'm working on the sub-roadbed that will be attached to a system of modified spline supports. I printed full sized drawings of the Appalachia, VA, yards and wye, and transfered that to the sub-roadbed. Tonight I'm going to start cutting and trimming the sub-roadbed. Next I will be installing the spline and supports. Additional details are available at my website http://www.landninnscale.com Comments and suggestions are always welcome.
