I just got my Ztrack...MT has a full page advertisment. In it they say they will intorduce a new diesel by the end of the year? Anybody got the inside story here?
Did you notice any one new product announcements in the ad? One we know about, the other is a surprise! As for the diesel, I have heard rumors, but nothing I can put in print. Rob
I totally missed that page!! But I just now read it and that is darn good news!! I'm going to ask a question here that is related to the ad in Ztrack, so those of you who do not want to know until reading it yourself, please stop reading now. Pardon my ignorance, but what does FMC stand for? - Phil
FMC - Ford Motor Company? auto parts box car possibly? in a picture of the new hoppers coming out (on yahoo Z group) there was a picture of a modern boxcar without roof walks and an open door. It was letter PL&E. this car looked just like the rare unit that is no longer available from MTL because of a reported broken mold. we've all be screaming for a modern boxcar, and it may be that we saw a picture of one not (necessarily) intended. if this is not just someone's kitbash of the old boxcar (into on open door version) then i would hope this is the surprise release! i think the next diesel will be an NW2 switcher. dave f.
My guess is from here: http://www.ironhorse129.com/rollingstock/list/bldr_list_F.htm Says there is a FMC in Portland, OR Then if you read here: http://www.ironhorse129.com/rollingstock/list/bldr_list_G.htm Look up Gunderson near the bottom, also in Portland, OR. Next to that it says: "Began as a ship builder. Went into freight car building about 1960. Acquired by FMC (formerly Food Machinery Corp.) in 1965."
FMC is Fairbanks-Morse Co. They made locomotives like the Trainmaster, and I believe were later purchased by GE. Adam [ March 07, 2006, 08:48 PM: Message edited by: Adam Amick ]
Thanks for the responses everyone! I just ran a search for the type of car that was listed in the ad with FMC in front of it, and I for one, am very excited and know a lot of others will be also. And in keeping with the original subject of this thread - "New MT Diesel" - Any guesses as to if it's going to be completely new, or a variation of the existing GP35? I'll probably be happy either way.
OK I found more. FMC logo on the side of a boxcar: http://www.trainweb.org/nwrp/bldr/fmc1.jpg FMC's website: http://www.fmcsgvs.com/content/about/history.htm I'd say they are the same. Food Machinery Corp Food Machinery & Chemical both the same company. Could it be that FMC only makes the boxcars door?
FMC was a train car manufacturer. I know that they were located in Charleston WV in the 60's, and somewhere out west later on. I think they are related to Gunderson somehow. Dan S.
FMC appears to have been (and still is) a chemical company among other things. They apparently set up their own car shops. Then started producing for railroads. At some point, they bought out Gunderson. (FMC Ordinance Div.) Then, they turned to FMC's MRED division. Then, they separated from FMC and became Gunderson again.
Hint on the car or on the loco? I will say this about the car, it is missing something! As for the loco, it will have 4 axles. As for FMC, I really don't know what it stands for. Also, hello Dan! Rob
Hi Dan! So glad you've joined us on Trainboard. Hopefully we'll be seeing you this month down in Alexandria. I thought this new MTL diesel was going to be a GP7/9. I thought that was common knowledge. Or maybe not. And yes, I know that AZL has also promised the same. Perhaps I'm just still asleep. I'm not sure. And the PL&E boxcar that was in the background of the hopper picture was definitely N scale. I think that was confirmed over on the Yahoo list. Nonetheless, I'm confident that good things are coming from MTL, and I'm REALLY hoping that one of those good things is a modern boxcar. Speaking of which, anyone spoken to Mark4 Design lately? Tim??
I like David's guess. Joe said he is working on a MP15, but I think this is a cover. I think a switcher from a earlier period is more likely.
Well, this leads me to beleive that we are talking modern boxcars...as for the loco...Hmmm seems like a GP 38 or 40 might be approriate.
