Joe, I'm working 9/80's now as well and hope to use my day off to set up that FRI. I'll probably stay at my sister's that weekend across the river in Loudon. Yes, Brunswick is about 10-15 miles south of Frederick just up river from Point of Rocks (where the junction for Frederick is). Brunswick is on Rt. 17 and PoR is on Rt. 15. I don't have all the details yet. We just got confirmed for the show at the end of last week. The show is being run by the Brunswick Railroad Museum and sponsored by the Lions Club. I would watch the Museum website for more details and then ask me again as we get closer. About the only specifics I have at this time is that it will be open from 10am to 4pm Saturday and Sunday 19-20 MAY and will be in various buildings along Potomac Street since they don't have one single venue big enough to hold everyone. I should be there to set up on Friday, not sure about the rest of the group yet. Catherine, from the museum, said she would send me electronic copies of the general information flyers once they finished them (hopefully this week). I only saw the pre-registration vendor packet. Hope this helps. Would love to meet you. Randy
What about us folks who are not skilled at engine painting? And I suspect there are LOT more of those than painters. ...don
MTL wouldn't neglect making their products in various road names. the less likely hood is that they would make an undec. at all! with so many people planning to strip the new SD40 when it comes out, it kind of makes sense to let everyone have their diesel before everyone has to wait to get "their" diesel name. that's the logic behind the request. if MTL did decide to do it, it would be a one shot deal, and then everything else would no doubt be the various road releases. dave f.
Don, I have seen those wonderful building you build. You can do the same thing to the SD40. The only difference is that it moves.
Slopping on weathering isn't the same as a nice fine horizontal line of color or finding decals for the right name.... In the scheme of things, anyone any idea of approximately how many undec GP-35's went out the door vs. fully painted ones. One thing I do not understand is why it is hard to produce an UNdecorated model. Don't you just skip the pad printing equipment? ...don
maybe joe will answer this question: i wonder how many undec GP35 there still are? they are "out" on a lot the dealers websites i've looked at. also, i don't understand how MTL could lose money on this -- all they have to do is put the parts back on the line and paint/assemble whatever roadname is next. i'm sure i'm missing something. dave f.
Passenger sets vs. individual There are negative sides to both options (I'm a pessimist), Marklins passenger sets are now only available in sets (I assume the mold has multiple cars). This is great for getting the "complete" consist at one time, but if you want to add a couple of coaches or baggage cars, you have to buy complete sets. Which, unfortunately, gives you multiple observation cars and vista domes. Individual cars would give the buyer the option of what cars they wanted in their consist. Toward the end of the passenger service to my hometown on the NYC and where I live now on the Pennsy, the trains consisted of only a baggage car and a coach. Most bigger passenger trains had multiple baggage cars. Inter-city commuters had several coaches, but few (if any) sleepers. Cross country trains might have sleepers from multiple roads. Single cars would make these consists easier to model. Dan S.
Undecs Actually there are only a few left on the shelf...problem, it's been over a year since we put them up, and the rate of sales each month has bee less than exciting. It's not like it was a failure or we won't do it again...we will, but we need to do a better job of educating the dealers about being able to call us and re-order. As for an Undec SD40-2...it's going to happen and I'm trying to convince them to do it right out of the shoot. We might sell fewer decorated cars, but it would easier to offer a set number as undecorated...additonal sales I guess. I need to look at how many GP's sold the month they were offered before I go shooting off my mouth again!! Cheers Joe
Selection Dan, I suspect the cars will be less expensive than the Marklin product but don't quote me there. I hope we can come up with a plan where folks can pick and choose or get them all at once. Joe
Look guys, most of us who do reapaint our engines can strip them. I would prefer that Joe use his inffluence on something more importand. Like a new passenger engine. If a undec is the first release, then I am painting it CSX dark blue. GO BIG BLUE.
John, I'll hopefully have enough done within a week to post some pics of the hoppers. I've also been working a lot on my layout. 3 main lines, over 20 MTL switches, and now with the recent announcement of new radius MTL track, I'll probably make a few more track plan changes. I'll have some pictures of the layout in the next day or two. Also have a couple Chessie safety cabooses in the works.
Wow! passenger cars! i've been on break, this is good news. So is that SD 40...makes a guy think modern more and more.
Joe As a relatively new convert(1 year) from HO to Z, I think both MT and yourself are making great strides in improving the quality and attractiveness of Z scale. I recently met Keith and Coral Edwards of MTL here in my development. They are great people and spoke highly of the things you are doing for Z scale. Keep up the good work. Joe
Newbie Thanks very much for the kind words. To be honest, without the support of Management here at MTL. Z would be a footnote. They saw the potential as well and have directed a lot of our preciously limited resources to grow the scale. If the trend holds, I think the next two years are going to be unreal for the scale, not only our offerings, but others involved in the hobby as well. Glad you "went small", cause in Z Scale, Size Matters!! ) Give Keith and Coral our best, we miss them! Cheers Joe MTL
Along with the regular road names and numbers (UP) fan here:teeth: I see the need for a dozen or so to repaint into Utah Railway paint scheme for my layout. Can we speed this release up any!
