No clearance issues with 50' cars!

I doubt if I could say the same with passenger cars, but my Marklin rolling stock is still in storage, so will remain to be seen. Also I doubt if I have the height for double stack container cars, but since I don't have any, it isn't an immediate problem!

    Enjoy!

This is a real cool looking micro layout. You said Northeast, what are you thinking for a road? NYC, EL, Conrail? The tunnel reminds me of my interment in northern New Jersey.

    Thanks Jim!

Haven't really got as far as that yet, I will be running my current roster on it for now, which is a real mixture of road names. Please feel free to point out if anything I show in photographs or video looks really incongruous, I readily confess to a lack of knowledge when it comes to the territories covered by the different North American RR companies.

I really like the Central Vermont GP9 skin available from MTL so I might invest in that in the future. I am happy to be guided by any suggestions from more knowledgeable people than myself as to what might be appropraite :)

Ultimately I would like to attempt some custom paint jobs, at which point I will definitely be seeking advice on here!

Bit more work... edges of the woods get some more detailed etched wire trees...

Couple of drainage culverts to keep the tunnel from flooding...

    More soon!

I am a lurker on this forum, waiting to retire before I start my first layout. I would love to see some layouts but I am in Leicester and won't be able to make Wakefield but Nottingham is close if I could find out where and when it is. How do I get to find more details of where the shows with Z content are?

One of the interresting features with american railroads is that you can find almost everything everywhere, owing to leasing contracts or simply short term rolling stock shortages.
-Of course a freight car that belongs to any railroad is due to run everywhere, I used to see Union Pacific or BNSF cars as remotely as in Merida, Yucatan, Mexico.
-And about locomotives, when I used to go to California I oftenly spotted locos owned by Norfolk Southern, Canadian National, Kansas City Southern, Montana Rail Link, etc, in consists on Cajon Pass or Tehachapi..

Thanks Dom, you have confirmed what I guessed from watching my USA railroad DVDs :)

Yup, fun seeing a BNSF locomotive running on former Boston and Maine trackage in Concord NH!

The exception being the Alaska RR? There being, (to my understanding), no rail link between Alaska and the lower 48 States?

    Thanks for the input guys!

    Hi Budgie
Have a look at http://ukmodelshops.com/, you can search for exhibitions by distance from your location. When you look at the individual listings there will usually be a link to the club or exhibitions' website, which will usually have a list of the layouts to be featured with a short description. Any questions please ask!

The other place that regularly lists which shows have a Z layout at them is Continental Modeller magazine's exhibition diary pages. This previews the following months shows with times and dates and lists the layouts and what scale they are.

Nottingham show is March next year and the magazine is running an article about Shasta to co-incide with the show.

The next show near you that definately has a Z layout is the Warley show at the NEC (Nov 23rd and 24th)where Norman and Meg Raven have their new Japanese layout Shinso Mizu and Dave and Iris Guscott have Rheingauz ( the one with the moving barges on the river.[

Thanks Phil and Kev for the information, I will hopefully get to see a live Z scale layout soon. Meanwhile I am in awe of what people are showing on this forum.

More greenery added! Bit more undergrowth and some tidying up of the ballast still to do... Then I think I will add a plywood fascia to this one.

Very nice! Your rockwork is great and the tracks look very realistic with the paint and ballast. Well done!

True, but that doesn't prevent rolling stock from beeing barged back and forth.

That is great looking scenery Phil. But the backdrop asks for fir trees.
