Hi, I couldn't find a newbie thread for HO (like the N scale one).

So, how about I start one!

I'm primarily looking at modules - I have a nice nearby club. I like B+M, D+H, NH and Long Island. I grew up and went to college back east and was in a great college club.

I particularly like modeling buildings, but also like wood cars of the 1900-1950 era, as well as trolleys and commuter railroads. I presently live near San Francisco, and work for a local system.

Just getting back into the hobby, have a 12 by 14 foot room to use for a layout, which will probably be a collection of modules. The nice nearby club is European focused, but the module standards allow DC as well as various other modes.

    Cheers,
    Mike O

    Welcome at TrainBoard, Mike!

Now I've fun building H0n3 equipment like cars from LaBelle Woodworking. That's a lot of fun for the money. You need some time.
With narrow gauge you need less space than with standard gauge.

Thanks for the welcome. I'm starting out building a module that interfaces with a local club. Obviously, it has to interface with the rest of the modules, which means the front third has a dual track mainline. But the rest of the module is up to me. 24 by 59 inches is a decent amount of room, so I can put in a siding or two and a small yard, so it can be a working layout, even as a standalone. But, if I fill it up with track, there's no room left for buildings, which I also like. Any module suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Here's a typical module with lots of scenery:

As far as beers, Ironhorseman, I'm game. Do you have an ID? Does the state of Jefferson issue Driver Licenses? :) I prefer scale beer (as in Anchor Steam, Sam Adams, ...) as opposed to tinplate beer (Bud, Miller, Coors) but we'll let Wolfgang be the judge of good beer. :) We do have a group of railfans that meets monthly around Northern California and anyone is welcome. The next meeting is June 12 at the point where the Santa Fe crosses the UP in Stockton. And July 17 is in Antioch.

Next summer (2011) is also NMRA's national convention in Sacramento.

LaBelle kits are fun. A lot like Northeastern/Ambroid ones.

    cheers,
    Mike O
