So they put an island where that tram was running.

Yes, there is an island, and light rail tracks as well. The Los Angeles-Long Beach line was the first Pacific Electric line, and the last (1902-1961) and they rebuilt it using 90% of the original route (opened in 1989).

Also, that is not a tram, that is an Interurban. They ran 50mph and carried 80 people.

How about GM's the "Train of Tomorrow?" That could be run everywhere all over the US (don't know if it made into Canada). The whole thing would fit nicely in their bookcase box.

I'm hoping for either a TA or a Dreyfus Hudson. I love Art Deco locomotives.

I would love to see a Legitimate NYC Subway Train in N Scale. And no better company to do that than Kato;with their proven success overseas already producing them.
That’s my wish and I’m sticking to it. A US Subway Train in N Scale

Something nobody has done prior by the way

I would like to see the UNITRAM line expanded. They need curves of at least nine and three quarters and eleven inches as well as #4 turnouts. The current UNITRAM curves are far too sharp for most of the equipment out there. The turnouts are double track (as is all of the UNITRAM line). What happens is that the plastic frogs and plastic diamonds are positioned in such a way that much of the equipment that runs over them loses contact, thus stalls. The B-mann Peter Witt streetcar is one thing that stalls on the turnouts due to lost contact. B-mann's GE switchers, the prototypes of which did much street running, also stall on the diamonds. Kato's SWs and RS-2s will run, but they too, will stall on the diamonds and the RS-2s climb the curves and turnouts. Atlas four axle power will run, but, again, it climbs and stalls. The only thing that runs consistently on the UNITRAM out of what I have is the E-R Shark. Almost everything else climbs, stalls or derails.

I suspect that any full size US prototype interurban would climb, derail or stall on the current UNITRAM line. I had some on my pike, but ended up taking out all but the straight sections, as it was causing too many operating headaches, thus detracting from my enjoyment of the trains.

At a Springfield show, I did talk to a Kato representative from Japan and asked him about expanding the UNITRAM line. I told him that I did like the track, but could they do some single track (as much of the non trolley street trackage in this country was and is single track), some #4 turnouts and nine and three quarter/eleven inch curves.

You can cut the curves and straight pieces to single track, and, I did do that. When I saved the outside curves, that solved some of the problems, but not all. I looked at cutting the turnouts, but, when I took off the bottom cover plate and examined it all, I lost the nerve to cut that. I did try to use the inside, only, and let the outside (where the diamonds are) be "abandoned" street trackage, but, the curve on the inside was too sharp for most of my equipment. Most of it climbed and lost contact; some of it derailed.

I do hope that Kato will expand this line of track. I can usually do the straights and curves myself, but never have I been satisfied with that I did with the turnouts.

I'm not going to mention any names, but a certain Kato employee is pushing for the NYC J3a Dreyfess Hudson with matching 20th Century passenger cars. I told him that sounded to me like a great train to model. Kato USA is also looking at maybe doing the PRR Broadway Limited train set, but he did not mention which locomotive would be run with the set. I also suggested they need to re-run the GP50 with this production run to include the Southern's High Hood version. I guess only time will tell?

Thanks David. I had the full 10-car set. However I later sold them when I revamped my system to B&M rural New Hampshire merged with south Mississippi, prior to June 1953. Somehow the Central's Grand Steel Fleet just didn't fit, but they were beautifully made and operating models.

I wouldn't expect the next Kato release to require a lot of new tooling. That takes a LOT of time and money, and the Hiawatha was mostly new tooling (maybe all?, I haven't identified a single item that reused existing tooling). As I mentioned in the OP, the Twin Cities Zephyr would reuse tooling for all but three items. I think that is a huge factor here. I'm not sure if any previous Kato releases could be recycled for the NCL. We do have the Kato slumber coaches, but those would only appear in later incarnations of the NCL.
