I am just inquiring if there is anyone that models either of these formats. Nn3 would be US narrow gauge and Nm would be meter gauge like on the Swiss Railroads. This is N scale equipment running on Z scale track. Thanks, Robert
I know we have a few folks who do model in Nn3. Hopefully they'll spot this topic, and jump in! Boxcab E50
That is a Republic Locomotive Works kit added to a Marklin 2-8-2 mechanism. The kit included a cast metal boiler shell with an etched brass cab and tender. The tender trucks are cast brass.
I also do some modeling in Nn3 and am developing a narrow gauge logging line. I currently have a number of MTs Nn3 cars and a collection of Overton coaches that have been cut down to Nn3 dimensions. Power on the logging line will be two Class A Climax locos and one 2-6-0 from a Republic Locomotive Works kit. I am also currently building the JV Models Boyd Logging Camp and modifying the camp cars for the smaller Nn3 equipment.
The only thing that keeps me from buying the Aspen Model Nn3 stuff is... that at $1200 'and up' for each ready-to-run (RTR) engine... I would be sick if a competing manufacturer suddenly begins making similar models at less than half that price. Years ago... Micro-Trains did a couple of Nn3 engines for about $700 (or less???). I passed on them back then and regret that move... of course... I was not in good financial shape at that time either. Check out the Aspen Models website at this link... sigh... nice stuff, but too pricy for me. http://www.aspenmodels.com/
I play around with Nn3 for fun. I built these: http://picasaweb.google.com/ErieChris333/Nn323TBoxcabs http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=epXYmkQRql0 And built this kit from Toma Model Works:
Thanks for your input. I have been a customer of Gleis - Tech while I was based in Germany while in the USAF. Their items are expensive but there was a better exchange rate with the SwFr. Here is their website Produkte Robert
The finish on the model in some of the closeup shots looks a bit rough for something that costs SFr1290. Lok_Ge4_4III I rode most of the RhB in 2008, it's a very interesting operation.
