I also have quite a few pics of various "short lines" or other private roads that interchange with the CSX in North Carolina if anyone is interested.

Here's an interesting unit, albeit in poor shape. It is Aberdeen and Rockfish # 400, a GP38. It is a non-dynamic brake unit with a very small fuel tank (built light for the light rail conditions). http://www.trainweb.org/ncrail/images/AR400.jpg
The Aberdeen and Rockfish RR is one of the oldest short lines, well over 100 years old. This is their "newest" unit... I am not sure what units remain on their current roster; maybe someone else knows?

All or A&R units are in Great Mechanical Shape and are in the process of being repainted. GP7 205 was first, GP18 300 is in the process of being repainted and GP38 400 is next.

    Michael,
Thanks for the update! I am glad the units run better than they look, but am not terribly surprised. Do you also follow the AC&W?

Yes I follow the ACWR as well. I haven`t been down to chase them in a couple of month`s. I chased the first road trip out for three of the GP40`s. I live in Rockwell which is about 10 miles or so South of Salisbury on Hwy 52 and the NS N-Line or Yadkin Branch. Most weekends you can find me in Salisbury, Hamlet, or up on the Clinchfield. I usually like to do the Short Lines during the week when I can.

    See Ya

    Michael,
I know the area you live in very well. I used to travel to Salisbury frequently on business, and would enjoy taking pictures trackside in Spencer. I would take a lawn chair, scanner, camera, and many rolls of film, and sit trackside and catch all of the action going by. I remember seeing trains with mid-train helpers and radio cars too! It was always fun.
