Wow! Found this on a public site, it's a Norfolk Southern photo, of their latest in a series of heritage unit paint jobs. New York Central lightning stripes! Been a long time, hasn't it?
I have always loved that scheme. Though, and I hate to say this, it looked a lot better on the E-7. The E's smooth flowing body allowed the lightning stripes to flow, but the 70's body is broken into boxes that don't allow the stripe to flow.
Hank, I had the same feeling about the NS Pennsy--those stripes looked so much better on the older power like the GG-1s and the EMD diesels. It just didn't fit on the big box units.
Jim, I think the way that UP stylized their heritage units to fit the modern engine body form yielded a more pleasing result. Then again, art, like religion and politics, is extremely personal, so perhaps I had better keep my opinions to myself...:closedmouth: Though, I just re-looked at the NS-NYC photo and I'm beginning to like it. I think it will grow on me. Maybe I'm not that much of an opinionated Old F**t after all.
