Now gone, the Milwaukee's "S-curve" trestle in Tacoma stood since the early 1900's, where the Bi-polars once roamed going to the old Tacoma Eastern station before the Tideflats Station was built in the 50's, then countless trains battling up Tacoma Gulch and its' +3% grade heading to the south and eventually Portland. Now a dual track concrete monstrosity with no character for Sounder Trains and soon, Amtrak.
Just not the same as that wonderful aroma of creosote in the summer......

Look real close, just to the right, you can barely make out the original CMStP&P logo.

....and the sad aftermath......eventually it will be a dual track for both the Sounders, Amtrak, and Tacoma Rail use.

For those who are thinking about those poles, they were for their communications system, not the electrification.

Correct. The electrification ended in Tacoma, and all lines south of there were standard power.

I remember a great article the March 1978 Trains Magazine about "Tacoma Hill, Slugs and Mr. Clean" that covered operations on this line with sets of Fs. Almost 40 years has passed and I've never been to the area. :(

Your shots are great Kurt. I just love this sort of railroad archaeology and you capture it so well.
