Tingatui tower and railway station on the Taieri Gorge Railway outside of Dunedin, New Zealand. The tower controlled the sidings around the station as well as the diverging lines nearby. No longer in service as only one track at the station is left in place and the route up the Taieri Gorge is the only one used any more.

    Is this a tourist operation?

Now it is. The former Otago Central Railway line was closed in 1990.

The train emerges from the gorge onto a plateau with cool rock formations. Gondor from the movie Lord of the Rings was filmed not far from here.

I thought these were sheep grazing along the tracks at first. The rare llamas of Gondor.

Class DJ locomotive with a Bo-Bo-Bo wheel arrangement. Built by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, re-powered with a Caterpillar prime mover.
