    HI Folks:

What do I need to do to deaden the frog on an electrofrog turnout so that I can use it with my NCE PowerCab DCC System?

    Thanks
    TIM

Use insulators on the rails of the turnout that go to the frog- then you will need a way to power the frog. You need to so research on this.

This site has been here quite a while. Stupid Google can't hold a candle to it.

EDIT: I was thinking of N scale when I wrote the following reply, but in hindsight, the OP didn't actually say what scale he was referring to. So this may not be applicable for other scales.

Use insulators on the two frog rails, but don't separately power the frog unless you modify the closure rails. The frog on Peco Electrofrog switches is powered through the point rails. If you "deaden the frog", nothing will run through the switch.

I have ~ 40 Peco C55 electrofrog switches on my layout, and they generally work very well. However, they rely on good contact between the point and stock rails for electrical continuity, and it only takes a small amount of dust or grot for that to fail. It's less of a problem if you operate with multiple locos on a train, but can become a pain for single, short wheelbase switchers, and it exists for both DC and DCC operation. A few whisks with an old toothbrush will quickly correct the situation, but making them "DCC friendly" overcomes that problem permanently, and is quite simple to do.

There are several online guides on how to make Peco Electrofrog switches "DCC friendly", such as these:

I snipped the wires underneath the turnout to isolate the frog and will energize it with a frog juicer from Tam Valley, good for DCC only.

I put insulating rail joiners on the rails connected to the frog and added a wire to the rail per the photo:

Both rails are insulated on the right side to completely isolate the staging track if needed using a switch to cut if off from the DCC bus if needed.
