Pretty sure there are drawings of this loco showing the paint job details in the MR loco cyclopedia.

There was a color scale drawing in the Profile Publications monograph on the K4 Pacifics. I have got them scanned in if they are any use to you.

Keep in mind that when these locs were actually put into service, they were painted PRR Locomotive Green (extremely dark Brunswick). Even the one that pulled the Broadway Limited. The first one was painted a bronze color just for the World's Fair. It was repainted Dark Green immediately after.

The MR Cyclopedia shows the Bronze scheme and many model manufacturers incorrectly show the loc in tuscan and brunswick schemes. I'm guessing the latter is due to the limitations of color film from the time coupled with color drift due to age.

Thank You Dan. I found this in a wiki:
Pennsylvania Railroad locomotives were uniformly painted in a color commonly called Brunswick Green but known to the railroad as Dark Green Locomotive Enamel (DGLE, or DGLC for -Color.) This was an effectively black paint that contained a high proportion of copper oxides. These gave it a very slight greenish tinge that became more pronounced over time and with wear as the paint oxidised. DGLE is often described as being indistinguishable from black when fresh unless next to a pure black paint (as used on the underframes of PRR locomotives beneath the running boards).

Is it lke this, or more dark?

    Some informations from the web:
    ...
Pennsylvania Railroad color (account no.): Dark Green Locomotive Finish Enamel (#47-2626)
    Du Pont code: 32550
    ...
    Name # PRR Brunswick Green
    CMYK # 70, 59, 61, 47
    RGB # 61, 65, 64

...Locomotives were painted in a shade of green so dark it seemed almost black. The official name for this color was DGLE (Dark Green Locomotive Enamel). Often it was referred to as "Brunswick Green". The undercarriage of the locomotives were painted in black referred to as True Black...

Micro-Trains and AZL got the PRR Green pretty much spot on on their GPs. Marklin's GG1 was also very close. MT and Marklin's F7s, not so much.

I'm guessing the reason that they stuck with the green loc on their all tuscan streamlined passenger trains was that it was easier to keep clean. Or, at least the apperarance of clean.

Got the left hand tender side today and have completed the tender with 3 axle trucks from a Marklin hvy Flat. Had it out on the track and does this thing pull if the new shell from searails has any where near the weight that this one has it should give stellar performance on the rebuilds.

Working on the headlight tonight and should have some photos tomorrow provided I get through the bathroom reno work early enough.

    cheerz Garth

It takes awhile for Utube to process the video before it is available to view and that gives an error until it is ready. I also had the same problem until 2 hours after posting.

The clip was supposed to be 1 minute when I clipped it but I guess the whole thing got posted. Will have to look into that. After the first minute you can kill the rest as it just my hand or feet you can see.

And it's not black! It's Brunswick Green! Yes, Iknow, it looks like black, but it's the original color from Floquil.
