Going back to World War II, I'd like to know more about the "Luzon Military Railroad." Especially a map, and list of station names. Anyone have a resource at hand? Boxcab E50
Sorry, all I have is this photo my dad took in Tarlac Provence in the Phillippines on a sugar cane plantation around 1960. Not much help.
Below is why I'm asking. Trying to decipher the writing, so to know where these were copied: Boxcab E50
While I have nothing on "Luzon Military Railroad", I would expect that it would be the same layout / routing as the existing railroad there before the war. Maybe just searching on some combination of Luzon, Railroad, Philippines and some other key words might bring up a system map (even curent) that would give you some leads. Or, how about a Google Earth (or something similar) search of the island to see if you can pick out the lines, then correlate that with a regular map of the island. Or maybe a map of the island might still show rail lines. Here are a couple of sources that i turned up in a search. Nothing real specific, but some history of rail on the island, and some branch names. Note that the Wikipedia article has a map (enlargeable) that you might be able to correlate with a more detailed Luzon map. Also looks like the army had control over the railway system only from the end of the Pacific War until Feb 1946. http://www.jrtr.net/jrtr22/F38_Satre.html http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philippine_National_Railways http://www.pnr.gov.ph/history.htm http://www.pnr.gov.ph Maybe some of this may be of help. Well, after jumping from link, to link, to link, have come upon what I believe is one identity. The middle clearance card may be from Muntinlupa. Which after more searching, seems to be a city adjacent to Manila. Boxcab E50
Hi Yes Muntilupa is a suburb of Manila - I have connections in the Philippines (having lived there for many years) and know most of the places in and around Luzon and Manila I can't read the writing on your scans it seems to light if you have broken spelling of a place name I will do what I can to identify for you. - Wayne -
