Photography: Focus Stacking and Merge Software

    I haven't heard that Elements can do focus stacks. I wonder if that was just saying you could manually edit multiple layers/images to create a better depth of field.

    I have heard that Photoshop CS4 has focus stacking, but haven't tried it yet (CS3 has image stacks but not a focus option).

    CombineZ is a free focus stacking software program that does a good job.

    Helicon Focus is still the easiest to use and the best interface IMO. And depending on your camera, it has what's called Helicon Remote which allows you to control (and see) the camera through the software. It's too late at night to explain how that's an advantage, but I can if anyone really wants to know.

    I did this with the latest version of Helicon Focus.

    All I had to do was set the nearest point and furthest point and the software set the steps between and shot all the pictures for me.

    MTL should really work on the fit of those HW roofs. :)
