I just thought of another--on Soldier Summit in UT, the D&RGW (SP, and then UP nowadays) and Utah Railway shared the tracks thru Price River Canyon, from just west of Helper at Martin, UT to west of Gilully Loops. Can anyone confirm how far they shared trackage? All the way to Provo?
This is a link that shows a topo map from 1981 of Sherman. It shows the MKT branch, Frisco main, and T&NO line from left to right. Of course, here in 2007, the scene looks quite different- the old Frisco main is embargoed from the ConAgra flour plant north to the junction, and the Katy branch is gone from the DGNO (ex-M P) yard north to Denison. It runs as far south as the ConAgra mill. BNSF now runs on the ex-SP line to Sherman Jct- the rest of the SP line is operated by DGNO down to Anna, TX. From Plano into Dallas most of it is now DART light rail.
I just noticed that this thread is supposed to have pics... Here is the twin tunnels at Garrison, MT (NP/MRL and MILW):
At one time there where GN/NP on one side of the valley and Milw/UP on the other side of the valley from Sumner WA. to where thay came togather at Black River Jct. near Renton WA. and back in the early 1900's an interburn (sp) ran alongside both of them into Seattle WA. on the east side of Boeing Field into downdown
