Well the theme of the layout is the a protolance SP in the PNW, but I suspect I'll be running lots of other stuff from my collection on it too. I've already (in my head at least) added connections to the UP and BN to get some cool run through power on there and right now I'm toying with either doing a fictional version of the Mill City branch that was instead completed as a through route to the UP/BN line to the east or setting it on the edge of Portland. Whatever I choose I'll be running my Ponderosa Northern stuff on it too! :)

First task has been to preparing the 16x8 garage which has had issues with water ingress.

Here's the room after moving in, being used a dumping ground for everything

Here's the room with the fake rear wall removed along with all the old boarding, flooring and insulation which had become damp. The reason dampness was coming through the door was that it had not been sealed, even though a wall had been built behind it. that wall had been built of porous material too, a perfect storm.

Here we have the up and over door removed, bricked up and a new inner wall created. I've also sealed the edges and sides of the walls with a paint on damp proof membrane, and painted the main floor area with a grey garage floor paint.

Here we are a little later on, where the walls have been studded, insulated with Celotex and reboarded (I did most of this myself, with some help lifting the the 8x4 sheets). The floor paint though has failed due to rising damp in the concrete base, so I'm having to recoat the whole floor with the paint-on DPM. It's still wet in this photo.

Next job is to remove the racking, to complete the mudding on the walls, and painting the rest of the floor with the DPM. After that the whole floor will be covered with a plastic sheet, to stop the feet of the work table and ladders lifting the DPM - it likes to stick to rubber feet!

Then I'll be painting the room, adding rubber matting over the plastic sheet and adding skirting boards. Once that's done, I'll get the units back in (in a changed configuration) and start layout construction!

Amazing what a little drywall can do for a room...

    Thanks :)

I've been slogging away at this, but no updates here as it hasn't been worth posting pics of the same room every few days.

    Here's the progress:

    • The walls are finished and painted (as is the ceiling)
    • Skirting has been fitted around the room to stop the breeze!
    • The floor has been painted with another coat of DPM
    • Plastic sheet DPM has been fitted over that
    • Rubber mats have been fitted over that
    • We've started reinstalling the old units
