Finally got around to detailing the ABA set of Alco FA's that have been on a shelf for years. The gears were all changed; Leslie 5 chime horn replaced the single horn on the right side; speed recorder was added to the left side front axle; extremely light weathering was done. They look better than out-of-the-box new models, but need a little more weathering.
Thanks. My grandfather (mom's dad) was a career lineman for the QA&P. That's probably where my affinity for the Frisco came from. I have photographs of FA's working the QA&P, so these models are a good fit. And for the cattle...my wife likes cows (that's what she calls them--cows, not cattle). So our layout is cattle rich!!! A couple of more shots of cattle, and there are lots more than what's in these photos.
I like the fascia board on your layout. The wood finish goes well with the western theme of your layout. It reminds me a bit of an old-west town or ranch-style 3-board fence. A lot of people try to hide the fascia with neutrals colors like black and brown, it's cool that yours has some style to it.
Thanks!!!! I appreciate that. There was this strangely colored wood making up a rattletrap old set of shelves in the shop building when we bought the house. I didn't do anything with or to it, thinking that it would come in handy someday. And it did. Using the tablesaw, I ripped the wood into strips and used it for the fascia on a good bit of the railroad. It also came in handy when I made the modeling desk that fits under the layout.
