Can somebody show me a link to a website with pictures from Tank Containers or tell me how they actually run on the Stackcars? I've quickly took some pictures with different setup. Do they run like that? Thanks for any help.
Answer! Tank Containers usually ride in the lower well only. It's typical for a 20' container to be placed next to it. Very seldom have I seen 2 tank containers side-by-side in a well car, on a flat car, yes. Remember, tank containers are extremely heavy. Liquid weight compared to solid weight. I guess it depends on the weight of the bottom well whether or not a container is loaded on top. I have seen 40' containers on top of tank containers. One good source for tank container photos is: http://www.matts-place.com/intermodal/part2/tanks.htm Shows alot of tank containers. Some on 89' flats, Spines, and wells. Click on the top logo to take you to the home page. Will take you about 2 hours to go completely thru this site looking at all of the containers. Ok, maybe three hours!!! Yet another of Tim's Intermodal resources released to the Z scale media!!! mg: Hobo Tim
What!!!! Fred, You'll "but" what????? mg: Hah!!! So many people press the "T" button when they mean to press the "Y" button. Makes you think what is really on their mind! ====================================== Tank Containers!! Still trying to think of a better way to make them. Would love to make Injected Plastic. Need a CNC mill for better mold making! Rob has me pretty much tied up with Thrall's for now. Hobo Tim
Bulk (tank) containers Hi Tim, These are a one piece resin castings of tank containers by Fine N Scale. Much easier to cast than the open frame type. Steve
Tim, what are you doing chatting on the web. Get back to work man. We need more Thralls! No time for fun or sleep! LOL!!! Rob
Damn!!! Cracking the Whip!!!!! I am actually working on the Thrall main bodies right now. Just finished bending the walkways for 44 Thrall's. Bent the ends for that many yesterday along with the air tank valve regulator (Or whatever it is called). Will do alot of bending this weekend to get ready for solder assembly Monday!! This is what my weekend looks like! MOW Truck-modify motor for Marklin Worm gear installation. Maybe work on Corel program for etch brass frame. SW-1's-Multiple SW-1's to work on. Some to finish, some to start. Have 7 chassis to machine and 2 shells to build. 2 shells to finish! Modern Coal Facility-Drawing out plans Personal-Target signals***, sanding tower, Mi-Jack's, and this confounded Intermodal Module! Changing frame for the third time!! Total remake!!! What are you doing? (Sounds like a great idea for a new topic) Hobo Tim
Freakin Fantastic Idea! This is a fantastic idea!!! I have thought about it, but never knew it was being done in another scale. Nice!!! This is probably the only Tank container design to cast in resin, in one piece, as the other designs are a bit difficult! But possible!!! Hobo Tim
Just wanted to add my 2 cents. After 1997 (or around that time) the railroads made it a rule that you could not load a container on top of a tank. Before that time, it was common to see a 40' container on top, but never was a tank placed on top. Hope this helps you.
Thank's for the answer Eddie, now we need only someone who makes them for our scale I would buy a bunch of it.
It wouldn't be too hard to make them. In HO scale they are just cut pipe and photoetche. I could come up with something in Z scale after I'm finished will my current projects.
I have a couple Z prototypes that Tim made out of etched brass and styrene tubing. They look just fine to me. I also have some of the American Models ones in N Scale to compare with, and Tim's compare just fine. The problem is it takes time and research to get paint schemes and decals done for them. That would delay the ACe shells.
Can I have one or two??? :tb-embarrassed: I could provide you all the info needed to make the decals for a UP or ATSF prototype.
I've had dibs on those pieces for years!! Still waiting,Tim! cool: I love looking at your parts bin...........
